NaCTeM to support the development of innovative pathology tests
2015-07-27
NaCTeM will form part of the University of Manchester team in a new set of projects whose aim is to bring innovative pathology tests to patients. A total of six projects is being supported by the MRC and EPSRC, led by different universities in the UK, with collaboration from clinicians and industry.
The University of Manchester node (Manchester Molecular Pathology Innovation Centre) has been awarded funding of £2.9. The node will focus on developing biomarker based molecular pathology tests, with the initial work aimed at creating tests to diagnose, pick the right treatment and asses the response to treatment for a range of inflammatory conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and psoriasis.
NaCTeM will provide text mining solutions to support this work. Prof. Sophia Ananiadou is a co-investigator on the project and a dedicated Research Associate will be employed to work on the text mining research for 4 years.
