The Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences & The National Centre for Text Mining
Would you like to generate new ideas and hypotheses without spending hours trawling through masses of literature and notes? If the answer is yes, text mining could help you!
Text mining offers a solution for dealing with the problems of information overload and information overlook. Complementing the human reader, automated text mining systems can analyse large document collections to discover new knowledge and meaning from information sources including clinical reports. The outcomes of text mining can be used to support medical research and are actively used in the pharmaceutical community.
Dr Sophia Ananiadou, Director of the National Centre for Text Mining and her team will start the workshop by giving an overview of text mining and will demonstrate text mining in action. There will be an opportunity for questions and further discussion over refreshments.
The workshop will be held in University Place (campus map, number 37) in rooms 306a/b, ground floor.
Sessions will run at 12-1.30pm, 2.30- 4pm and 4.30-6pm. Refreshments will be available.
To register for the event please email Kelly Birtwell (Kelly.Birtwell@manchester.ac.uk) stating which session you would like to attend.
Please see http://www.nactem.ac.uk for further details on text mining.
