Frequently Asked Questions
How do I save Plain Text (US ASCII) from Microsoft Word?
- Select 'Save As...' from the File menu
- Choose "Plain Text (*.txt) from the 'Save as type' dropdown menu and click 'Save'
- A 'File Conversion' dialog box appears: select the 'Other encoding' radio button, then 'US-ASCII' from the listbox.
- If you also check the 'Allow character substitution' checkbox, Word will replace smart quotes with ASCII quotation marks. A preview is shown so you can see the effect of making the substitution, and any characters that Word cannot convert will be highlighted.
- Click 'OK' to save the file.
