Title: | Biomedical Resources for Text Mining |
Date: | 1pm, 23rd February, 2006 |
Location: | Lecture Theatre H11, Renold Building (building 8 on the campus map) |
Abstract: | Biomedical text mining consists of identifying entities of biomedical interest in text on the one hand and relations among such entities on the other. Traditionally, lexicons support named entity recognition, while ontologies support relation extraction. This talk will present some of the lexical and ontological resources used for text mining in biology and biomedicine. The use of biomedical terminologies in text mining applications will be discussed as well. The central role played by the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) will be illustrated. |
