John McNaught, deputy director of NaCTeM, is quoted in a recent news feature in the Nature journal.
The article, entitled "The plan to mine the world’s research papers", describes how the various restrictions imposed by publishers can make it problematic for text mining reseachers to mine large volumes of scientific articles, and how a new repository of scientific literature being built in India is aiming to alleviate some of these difficulties. In the article, Mr. McNaught explains how, even when researchers have acess to publishers' article repositories, restrictions on download speeds imposed by the publishers can make it difficult to researchers to obtain the number of articles required for large-scale text mining.
