Team MANCS (Dr Sophia Ananiadou, Dr Yutaka Sasaki, Mr Brian Rea)
ranked in the top 5 at international competition "the 2007 Computational
Medicine Center International Challenge: Classifying Clinical Free Text
Using
Natural Language Processing." [1]
The mission in this competition is to create computational intelligence
algorithms
that automate the assignment of ICD-9-CM codes to
clinical free text.
The performance of MANCS's software was ranked at fifth position in
terms of the cost sensitive measure and eighth in term of macro average F1
among 44 leading research institutes all over the world.
