Text Mining and Applications Workshop

National Centre for Text Mining, University of Manchester and Ho Chi Minh City University of Science

14th May 2018, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

WORKSHOP SCOPE

Text mining (TM) is increasingly used to harness the power of unstructured data and analyse such data to discover hidden and new knowledge. TM applications have attracted considerable worldwide attention from both academia and industry over the past few years. However, in Vietnam, TM still remains under-explored due to a lack of communication between different scientific communities. This workshop will explore how text mining can be used to bring together different communities by supporting a number of applications such as publishing, life sciences, evidence-based medicine, biodiversity, etc. in Vietnam.

Building on recent developments of the OpenMinTed project, which supports interoperability between text mining platforms, we will demonstrate text mining applications in the areas of chemistry, neuroscience and biodiversity. OpenMinTeD illustrates the effectiveness of interoperability principles among different text mining platforms, tasks and languages. We invite submissions in the following areas:

  1. Resource building (annotated corpora, terminologies)
  2. Vietnamese language processing
  3. Named entity recognition
  4. Relation and event extraction
  5. Text summarisation
  6. Opinion mining and sentiment analysis from social media
  7. Search systems, question-answering and other applications
  8. Text mining infrastructures
