Primary hepatic lymphoma is a
rare disease
. We report five cases here and summarize clinical and pathologic features of our own and reported cases from Western countries and Japan. The total number of cases was 68. The age of patients ranged from 7 to 87 years (median 55) with a male-to-female ratio of 3.1:1. Chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis before onset of hepatic lymphoma was noted in 44% of Japanese cases and 9.6% of Western cases. Macroscopically, the liver was occupied by solitary mass (60%), multiple masses (35%), or a diffuse lesion without nodule formation (5%). Histologically all cases were
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
with the diffuse large cell type being most common. Three cases (4.4%) were follicular lymphoma. Immunohistochemically about 80% of the cases were B-cell type. Follow-up study showed that hepatic lymphoma had a relatively favorable prognosis when early detection of the disease was possible.

Primary intracerebral malignant lymphoma is
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
originating in the central nervous system. It is a
rare disease
, comprising 1% of all brain tumors and 1.6% of extranodal
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
, but its frequency has increased recently in aged patients. The ages of the 10 patients (8 men and 2 women) ranged from 31 to 79 years and average 56 years. In 5 patients over 60 years old (mean age 72), a solitary lesion was found in 2 patients and multiple lesions in 3 patients on a contrast-enhanced scan. One patients are still alive, but 4 died, after surviving 4 months on average. In 5 patients under 60 years old (average 39), single lesion were present in 4 and multiple in 1. Two patients are still alive three patients have died. Their median survival was 4 years and 11 months. In conclusion, primary intracerebral malignant lymphoma increased frequency in aged patients. Their tumors were generally larger and more often multiple, and their prognosis was definitely poor.

Primary
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
of the central nervous system (CNS) is a
rare disease
. Seven patients were seen and treated at the University of Michigan Medical Center between January 1969 and December 1983. All patients had histologically proven diagnoses of large cell lymphoma with clinical and radiologic evidence of involvement limited to the CNS. Five of seven patients received postoperative radiation therapy, two of whom have had apparent local control at 1- and 2-year follow-up. The two patients without postoperative radiation died of local recurrence 2 and 3 months following subtotal resection. These poor results suggest that adjuvant therapy may be required for improved control of this type of extranodal lymphoma.

Primary
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
(
NHL
) of the central nervous system is a
rare disease
. The number of cases reported in the literature does not exceed 200. The current series comprises 15 cases of primary
NHL
of the CNS. In 12 cases material for pathology was obtained at surgery. In the other three cases the diagnosis was established by cytologic examination of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The type of lymphoma was predominantly the diffuse lymphocytic type. All the patients received irradiation on the whole brain by means of two opposite lateral fields. The administered total doses were 40 Gy in four weeks in ten cases, 50 to 60 Gy in 5 to 6 weeks in four cases and 30 Gy in three weeks in one case. All but three patients are dead although initially a good tumor response was obtained as confirmed in most of the cases by CT scan. The mean survival of the dead patients was 14.5 months. No relationship was found between the administered dose and the relapse-free time. In six cases (40%) evidence of seeding was observed. Because of the poor results obtained with irradiation either of only the tumor bearing area or whole brain and because of the high risk of seeding through the CSF, the irradiation of the entire CNS is recommended in patients with primary
NHL
of the brain.

Primary prostatic lymphoma is a
rare disease
. We report a 73-year-old man who initially presented with features of bladder outflow obstruction. Histology revealed
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
. He was treated with radical radiotherapy with complete regression of disease. Although the follow-up period is, as yet, relatively short, the apparently good result in this patient supports the view of other recent reports that the outcome in this situation depends on the features of the individual disease rather than it being universally poor as had been previously suggested.

Two cases of primary
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
of the uterine cervix are described. Diagnostic pitfalls and therapeutic applications of this
rare disease
are discussed. The main approach in local therapy is external beam radiation--with or without surgical staging. Prognosis is favourable--depending on the stage of disease.

Transition of a (probably primary) cutaneous
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
to T-stem cell leukaemia was observed in a case. Unusual clinical features, histological and laboratory data hampered the diagnosis-making of this
rare disease
. Using the ALL-BFM 90 HRG protocoll complete remission was achieved. Under the treatment varicella-zoster virus encephalitis took place.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma often involves the gastrointestinal tract, but primary lymphoma of the colon is rare. Primary lymphoma of the colon masquerading as inflammatory bowel disease is even rarer. We report a patient with an initial diagnosis of Crohn's colitis, who later appeared to have had
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
of the colon. We review the diagnosis and treatment of this
rare disease
.

Primary lymphoma of the liver is a
rare disease
. The MR appearances of three cases of pathologically confirmed primary
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
of the liver are presented. All three lymphomatous lesions appeared as unique well demarcated focal liver lesions on MR images. On T1-weighted images, two lesions were hypointense and one slightly hyperintense to the liver. On T2-weighted images, the three lesions were slightly heterogeneous and hyperintense. Lobulation, which was better seen on T2-weighted images, was noticed in one lesion. One lesion was studied after gadopentetate dimeglumine injection and showed marked and heterogeneous enhancement.

Primary
non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
(
NHL
) of bone is a
rare disease
, accounting for less than 1% of all
NHL
cases and 3-5% of all extranodal lymphoma cases. Of 512
NHL
patients treated at our department, 9 patients (1.8%, median age of 54 years) had primary
NHL
of bone. The disease was histologically of the diffuse type in all a patient, and of the large cell type in 6. The disease was at stage 1 in 8 patients and stage II in 1. The patients all received radiotherapy of 30-40 Gy following either the CHOP or COP-BLAM chemotherapy regimens. Treatment achieved complete remission in 8 patients. Six patients still alive (median follow-up: 63 months). It has been reported that survival is longer for patients treated with a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy than those, treated with radiotherapy alone. Consequently, we conclude that the standard treatment course for primary
NHL
of bone should be chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy.
