Metal complexes of o-vanillidene-2-aminobenzothiazole have been prepared and characterized by elemental and spectral (vibrational, electronic, 1H NMR and EPR) data as well as magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermo gravimetric analysis (TG/
DTA
). The low molar conductance values reveal the non-electrolytic nature of these complexes. The elemental analysis suggests that the stoichiometry to be 1:2 (metal:ligand). Magnetic susceptibility data coupled with electronic spectra suggest that two ligands coordinate to each metal atom by phenolic oxygen and imino nitrogen to form high spin octahedral complex with Co(II), Mn(II) and Ni(II). The fifth and sixth position of metal ion is satisfied with water molecules. The thermal behaviour (TG/
DTA
) of the synthesised complexes shows that the complexes loss water molecules in the first step followed by decomposition of the ligand. Spin Hamiltonian parameters predict a distorted tetrahedral geometry for the copper complex. XRD and SEM analysis provide the crystalline nature and the morphology of the metal complexes. The in vitro biological activity of the metal chelates is tested against the Gram positive bacteria (Bacillus amyloliquifacians) and gram negative bacteria (Pseudomonas species), fungus (Aspergillus niger) and yeast (Sacchromyces cereviaceae). Most of the metal chelates exhibited higher biological activities.

Nonlinear optical single crystals of ammonium pentaborate (APB) were grown by the slow cooling method from aqueous solution. Grown crystal was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and FT-IR spectral analysis. Perfection of the grown crystal was evaluated by high-resolution X-ray diffractometry (HRXRD). The effect of nylon threading on the perfection of the grown bigger crystal was also studied by HRXRD. The range and percentage of optical transmission was ascertained by recording UV-vis-NIR spectrum. Thermal properties were investigated by TG-
DTA
and DSC analyses. Its mechanical hardness was estimated by Vickers microhardness tester.

The grown single crystals have been analyzed with XRD, FT-IR, TG/

measurements. Its mechanical behavior has been assessed by Vickers Microhardness measurements. Its nonlinear optical property has been tested by Kurtz powder technique. Its optical behavior was examined by UV-vis, and found that the crystal is transparent in the region between 250 and 1200 nm.

The bulk single crystals of sodium pentaborate [Na(H4B5O10)] were grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique using deionized water as solvent. The grown crystal was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The structural perfection of the grown crystals has been analyzed by high resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) studies by recording rocking curve. The photoluminescence (PL), UV-vis spectral studies were performed and the optical bandgap of the material was calculated. The presence of the functional groups was identified by FT-IR measurement. The factor group analysis was done on Na(H4B5O10) to reveal the vibrational optical modes. The thermal and mechanical properties of the grown crystal were studied by TG-
DTA
and Vickers microhardness tester, respectively. The dielectric behavior of Na(H4B5O10) was investigated with different frequencies and temperatures.

The organometallic crystal bisthiourea manganese chloride (BTMC) was grown by slow evaporation technique using water as solvent. The lattice parameters of the grown crystal have been determined by X-ray diffraction studies. Vibrational spectra were recorded to determine the symmetries of molecular vibrations. The observed Raman and infrared bands were also assigned and discussed. The optical transmission spectral study revealed the transmitting ability of the crystal in the entire visible region. The TGA/
DTA
analysis explains the thermal stability of the investigated crystal.

Cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), zinc(II) and hafnium(IV) complexes of furan-2-carbaldehyde 4-methoxy-N-anilinoacetohydrazone were synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal (TG and
DTA
) analyses, IR, UV-vis and (1)H NMR spectra as well as magnetic moment and molar conductivity. Mononuclear complexes are obtained with 1:1 molar ratio except complexes 3 and 9 which are obtained with 1:2 molar ratios. The IR spectra of ligand and metal complexes reveal various modes of chelation. The ligand behaves as a neutral bidentate one and coordination occurs via the carbonyl oxygen atom and azomethine nitrogen atom. The ligand behaves also as a monobasic tridentate one and coordination occurs through the enolic oxygen atom, azomethine nitrogen atom and the oxygen atom of furan ring. Moreover, the ligand behaves as a neutral tridentate and coordination occurs via the carbonyl oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and furan oxygen atoms as well as a monobasic bidentate and coordination occurs via the enolic oxygen atom and azomethine nitrogen atom. The electronic spectra and magnetic moment measurements reveal that all complexes possess octahedral geometry except the copper complex 10 possesses a square planar geometry. The thermal studies showed the type of water molecules involved in metal complexes as well as the thermal decomposition of some metal complexes.

A novel bis-pyrazolyl-carboxyl ligand, 2,6-bis(5-methyl-3-carboxypyrazol-1-ylmethyl)pyridine (L), was designed and synthesized and its several lanthanide(III) complexes Eu(III), Tb(III), Sm(III) and Gd(III) were successfully prepared and characterized in detail based on elemental analysis, infrared, mass, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and TG-
DTA
studies. Analysis of the IR spectra suggested that each of the lanthanide metal ions coordinated to the ligand via the carbonyl oxygen atoms and the nitrogen atom of the pyridine ring and pyrazole rings. The fluorescence spectra exhibits that the Tb(III) complex and the Eu(III) complex display characteristic metal-centered fluorescence in solid state while ligand fluorescence is completely quenched. However, the Tb(III) complex displays more effective fluorescence than the other complexes, which is attributed to especial effectivity in transferring energy from the lowest triplet energy level of the ligand (L) onto the excited state ((5)D(4)) of Tb(III).

The mechanical properties of grown crystals were studied using Vickers microhardness tester. Its second harmonic generation efficiency was tested using Nd:YAG laser and is 1.25 times that of KDP.

Seven transition metal complexes of benzimidazole ligand (HL) are reported and characterized based on elemental analyses, IR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance and thermal analyses (TGA and
DTA
). From the obtained data, the complexes were proposed to have the general formulae [MX(2)(HL)(H(2)O)].yH(2)O, where M=Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cr(III); X=Cl(-), SO(4)(2-) and y=0-4. The molar conductance data revealed that all the metal chelates were non-electrolytes. From the magnetic and solid reflectance spectra, it was found that the geometrical structure of these complexes is octahedral. The thermal behaviour of these chelates showed that the hydrated complexes loss water molecules of hydration in the first step followed immediately by decomposition of the anions and ligand molecules in the subsequent steps. Fungicidal activity of the prepared complexes and free ligand was evaluated against three soil borne fungi. Data obtained showed the higher biological activity of the prepared complexes than the parent Schiff base ligand. Formulation of the most potent complex was carried out in the form of 25% WP. Fungicidal activity of the new formulation was evaluated and compared with the standard fungicide Pencycuron (Monceren 25% WP). In most cases, the new formulation possessed higher fungicidal activity than the standard fungicide under the laboratory conditions.
