Using a modified spectrophotometric procedure suggested by M. A. Korolyuk et al. the authors have detected a significant reduction of blood plasma catalase activity vs. the norm in subjects with signs of alcoholic involvement of the heart. Changes in catalase activity are not related to laser exposure and are constant. Catalase activity values in normal subjects, coronary patients, and chronic alcoholism without signs of alcoholic involvement of the heart are virtually the same and coincide with the normal data reported in literature.
