Lysine
vasopressin
and a long-acting analogue N alpha-triglycyl-lysine
vasopressin
were compared in a prospective randomized double-blind study including 71 women undergoing cold knife conization of the
uterine cervix
. Hemodynamic and hemostatic variables were studied. N alpha-triglycyl-lysine
vasopressin
had the following advantages over lysine
vasopressin
: it gave significantly less skin pallor, becoming evident at a later stage during the operation. The diastolic blood pressure was significantly lower, as also was the incidence of postoperative hemorrhages. Factor VIII related antigen was lower. On the other hand reduction in heart rate (values before conization compared with values during conization) was more pronounced when N alpha-triglycyl-lysine
vasopressin
was used, but there was no difference in absolute values between the two groups during conization.

The effect of electric stimulation of the
uterine cervix
on
vasopressin
and prolactin secretions was investigated in 16 patients with uterine myomas and/or hypermenorrhea. One month after hysterectomy a similar stimulation was induced near the fornix of the vagina. Particularly the first test also seemed to be a considerable psychic stress for the patients. The stimulation did not cause any significant changes in plasma
vasopressin
and prolactin concentrations.

In a 59-year-old woman suffering from the syndrome of inappropriate
antidiuretic hormone
secretion, a small cell carcinoma of the
uterine cervix
was detected. The tumor was immunoreactive for
antidiuretic hormone
as well as for neuron specific enolase, chromogranin A, and Leu-7, but not vimentin. Electron microscopic examination of the tumor revealed neurosecretory granules. To our knowledge, this is only the second report of the syndrome of inappropriate
antidiuretic hormone
secretion with small cell carcinoma of the
uterine cervix
and the first one confirmed immunohistopathologically.

Small cell carcinoma of the
uterine cervix
is rare. It is estimated that 10% of patients with small-cell lung cancer have syndrome of inappropriate secretion of
antidiuretic hormone
(SIADH) and hyponatremia has been reported to be significantly associated with a poor prognosis. A proportion of small cell carcinoma of the
uterine cervix
exhibit neuroendocrine characteristics as revealed by immunohistochemistry, However, cases presenting typical symptoms due to SIADH are extremely rare. This report of the SIADH of the
uterine cervix
is a rare case in the small cell carcinoma of the cervix presenting with tumor-associated paraneoplastic syndrome.
