This study describes the distribution and frequency of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), androgen receptor (AR), and glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in a large series of patients with primary metastatic breast cancer. 329 patients were in this series. All 4 steroid hormone receptors were present in the population: ER was positive in 53%, PR was positive in 38%, AR was positive for 31%, and GR was positive in 52%. Next, the distribution of ERs as well as the distributions of PR, AR, and GR values seemed unimodal. There was a very high correlation between any steroid hormone receptor value expressed as either fmol/mg of
cytoplasmic protein
or fmol/mg of breast tumor. Of more importance was that alternate methods of data expression did not alter the classification of values as positive or negative. No correlation was found between any of the steroid hormone receptors and laterality of the breast tumor, location and size of the
primary tumor
, extent of disease, or type of tissue assayed. None of the steroid hormone receptors correlated with age. There was a strong correlation noted between ER values and menopausal status. Neither PR, AR, nor GR was significantly associated with menopausal status. ER status was correlated with axillary nodal status, with the ER positive group containing a high proportion of node-negative patients. Finally, quantitative analysis of steroid receptor hormone values demonstrated correlations among other receptors. Plotting values of any 1 receptor vs. any other receptor resulted in a positive Kendall rank test correlation which was highly significant.

A monoclonal antibody (MAb 76) was produced by immunizing mice with a soluble
cytoplasmic protein
fraction from a human adenocarcinoma of the colon. MAb 76 showed specific immunoreactivity against a 76 kDa protein in immunoblot studies using total colon tumor cytosol proteins. Immunoprecipitation of phosphorylated cytosolic protein products with MAb 76 and subsequent analysis on SDS containing polyacrylamide gels revealed a single 38 kDa band, indicating that the 76 kDa antigen is associated with a 38 kDa phosphoprotein species. specimens and human colon tumor cell lines showed positive immunoreactivity with 6/7 human colon adenocarcinoma tissues and 15/18 human colon tumor cell lines. MAb 76 was unreactive with normal colon, liver and lung specimens from human, mouse and hamster. The epitope-bearing monomer detected by MAb 76 is immunologically conserved in a high percentage of colon tumor cells and tissues and may represent a cellular product that is characteristic of the transformed colon cell phenotype.

The Breast Cancer Metastasis Suppressor 1 (BRMS1) is a nucleo-
cytoplasmic protein
that suppresses cancer metastasis without affecting the growth of the
primary tumor
. Previous work has shown that it decreases the expression of protein mediators involved in chemoresistance. This study measured the biomechanical and biochemical changes in BRMS1 expression and the responses of BRMS1 to drug treatments on cancer cells
in vitro
. The results show that BRMS1 expression affects biomechanical properties by decreasing the Young's modulus and adhesion force of breast cancer cells after doxorubicin (DOX) exposure. Raman spectral bands corresponding to DNA/RNA, lipids and proteins were similar for all cells after DOX treatment. The expression of cytokines were similar for cancer cells after DOX exposure, although BRMS1 expression had different effects on the secretion of cytokines for breast cancer cells. The absence of significant changes on apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) expression and cell viability after BRMS1 expression shows that BRMS1 has little effect on cellular chemoresistance. Analyzing cancer protein expression is critical in evaluating therapeutics. Our study may provide evidence of the benefit of metastatic suppressor expression before chemotherapy.

Purpose
: Trophinin-associated protein (TROAP) is a
cytoplasmic protein
that plays a significant role in the processes of embryo transplantation and microtubule regulation. However, the relevant survival analysis and cancer progression analysis have not yet been reported.
Methods
: Eighteen matched pairs of tumor and adjacent non-tumor samples were evaluated to detect the TROAP mRNA level. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to evaluate the TROAP expression in 108 hepatocellular carcinoma patients who underwent surgical resection. Meanwhile, data from the TCGA database was statistically evaluated.
Results
: In the present study, we detected a significant increase in the TROAP mRNA level in tumor tissues when compared with adjacent non-tumor tissues. Moreover, the upregulation of TROAP was associated with increased serum AFP and GGT; the greater the tumor number was, the larger the tumor size, differentiation grade, and cancer embolus in clinical analysis. In HCC patients, elevated TROAP expression in the
primary tumor
was positively related to clinical severity, such as poor overall survival and disease-free survival. In addition, both univariate and multivariate survival analysis validated that TROAP expression was a promising independent risk factor for overall survival and disease-free survival in HCC patients. Furthermore, the results derived from the analysis of data from the TCGA database were consistent with previous results. Altogether, our results show that TROAP is a novel crucial regulator of HCC progression and is a potential therapeutic biomarker for HCC patients.
Conclusions
: Elevated TROAP expression predicted a poor prognosis, and TROAP may serve as a potential biomarker for application in oncotherapy.
