Endometrial cancer
is one of the most prevalent neoplastic diseases in women, in the developed countries. In spite of hormonal dysfunction, no pivotal mechanism leading to this pathology is known. The study design was to evaluate the presence of human papilloma virus within the endometrium by in situ hybridization and its potential role in the occurrence of dysplastic and neoplastic endometrial lesions. Immunological antiviral and antitumour defense was investigated by cytometric measurement of selected lymphocyte subsets.

To date, nine case-control studies conducted in developed countries have identified an association between oral contraceptives (OCs) and liver cancer. The most recent population-based data from both developed and developing countries failed to confirm such an association, however. A study conducted by the World Health Organization in eight developing countries (Chile, China, Colombia, Israel, Kenya, Nigeria, Philippines, and Thailand), in which 122 women with liver cancer were matched with 802 controls, found no elevated risk for OC users compared with never-users (relative risk, 0.7; 95% confidence interval, 0.4-1.2). This study is particularly significant since it was conducted in countries where hepatitis B
virus infection
, an important risk factor for primary liver cancer, is widespread. In addition, population mortality data from the US, UK, Japan, and Sweden have failed to document increases in liver cancer cases coincident with increases in OC use. Given that population statistics can detect changes on the magnitude of a 40-50% decrease in the risk of ovarian and

related to OC use, they should be able to detect increases of two to 20 times the risk of liver cancer. The increased risk of liver cancer found in the case-control studies may reflect bias resulting from the small size of these studies.

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito borne
viral disease
, caused by Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection producing severe neuroinflammation in the central nervous system (CNS) with the associated disruption of the blood brain barrier. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a family of 21-24 nt small non-coding RNAs that play important post-transcriptional regulatory roles in gene expression and have critical roles in virus pathogenesis. We examined the potential roles of miRNAs in JEV-infected suckling mice brains and found that JEV infection changed miRNA expression profiles when the suckling mice began showing nervous symptoms. A total of 1062 known and 71 novel miRNAs were detected in JEV-infected group, accompanied with 1088 known and 75 novel miRNAs in mock controls. Among these miRNAs, one novel and 25 known miRNAs were significantly differentially expressed, including 18 up-regulated and 8 down-regulated miRNAs which were further confirmed by real-time PCR. Gene ontology (GO) and signaling pathway analysis of the predicted target mRNAs of the modulated miRNAs showed that they are correlated with the regulation of apoptosis, neuron differentiation, antiviral immunity and infiltration of mouse brain, and the validated targets of 12 differentially expressed miRNAs were enriched for the regulation of cell programmed death, proliferation, transcription, muscle organ development, erythrocyte differentiation, gene expression, plasma membrane and protein domain specific binding. Endometrial cancer
(EC) is one of the most common gynecological cancer types worldwide. However, to the best of our knowledge, its underlying mechanisms remain unknown. The current study downloaded three mRNA and microRNA (miRNA) datasets of EC and normal tissue samples, GSE17025, GSE63678 and GSE35794, from the Gene Expression Omnibus to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and miRNAs (DEMs) in EC tumor tissues. The DEGs and DEMs were then validated using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas and subjected to gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis. STRING and Cytoscape were used to construct a protein-protein interaction network and the prognostic effects of the hub genes were analyzed. Finally, miRecords was used to predict DEM targets and an miRNA-gene network was constructed. A total of 160 DEGs were identified, of which 51 genes were highly expressed and 100 DEGs were discovered from the PPI network. Three overlapping genes between the DEGs and the DEM targets, BIRC5, CENPF and HJURP, were associated with significantly worse overall survival of patients with EC.
