Red cells from patients with chronic non-obstructive bronchitis in clinical remission were used for investigation of phospholipid composition of the red cell membranes in case of bronchopulmonary pathology combination with urolithiasis. Structural changes in the above composition were seen from decreased amount of phosphatidyl choline and sphiringomyelin in increased proportion of phosphatidyl serine and phosphatidyl ethanolamine. Thus, cell membrane structural state of patients with chronic bronchitis combined with urolithiasis showed a shift to an increase in phospholipid double layer packing density and common red cell lipids saturation.

The composition of erythrocytic lipids was studied in patients with chronic nonobstructive bronchitis in the phase of clinical remission concurrent with urolithiasis. There was a significant increase in the proportion of phosphatidylserine with the decreased levels of sphingomyelin and phosphatidylcholine, a reduction in the relative quantity of fatty acids of iso- and anteisometric structure, an impairment in the relations between fatty acids that are precursors of the synthesis of eicosanoids of different series, as well as a decrease in the total unsaturation of erythrocytic lipids. The impairments found in the composition of erythrocytic lipids are markers of membrane destruction and they may serve as diagnostic criteria for concomitant pulmonary and renal lesions.

Urolithiasis and kidney disease as causes of significant mortality in fowls were investigated in two flocks of commercial laying birds on farms where outbreaks had occurred previously. The investigation, covering the first 10-11 months of egg production, included macroscopic and histological examination of individual cases of the disease, biochemical studies on blood samples collected at regular intervals from marked birds and the analysis of feed samples taken at the same time. The aetiology and pathogenesis of the condition was not established and the various investigations carried out did not reveal any consistent features. The possibility of an association between infectious bronchitis virus and the pathological entity described in the paper is discussed.

Macrotyloma uniflorum (Lam.) Verdc. (Papilionaceae) is commonly known as Horse gram and Kulthi. The seeds are reported as anthelmintic, diaphoretic, diuretic and emmenagogue. It is also useful in asthma, bronchitis and urolithiasis. In the present study, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and diuretic effects of the methanol extract of Macrotyloma uniflorum seeds were evaluated in doses of 200 and 400mg/kg. Significant results were obtained in all activities.
