Conduction velocities of compound action potentials of sensory axons of alteral superficial radial (
LSR
) and dorsal ulnar nerves (DUN) of the dog were determined by averaging potentials evoked and recorded through subcutaneous needle electrodes. Suitable locations for electrodes were identified and specificities of sites for
LSR
and DUN were verified by recording before and after cutting the nerves. Stimulus rates of 4/second to 20/second did not markedly affect conduction velocities. Increasing stimulus intensity in steps from threshold to 8 X threshold recruited more axons into the compound action potentials but resulted in interference from movement and muscle potentials at 4 X or 8 X threshold. Mean conduction velocities at 2 X threshold were:
LSR
= 61.7 +/- 0.76
SEM
; DUN = 68.1 +/- 2.71

The synergistic role of platinum and silica as a way to increase the final residue of pyrolized silicone was investigated and explained, giving new interpretations. Conditions were first set to study the thermal degradation of silicones in the presence of platinum based on the simplest silicone/silica/platinum formulation. Numerous parameters, e.g., platinum and silica content or silica surface modifications, were varied to track their influences on the final residues. A thorough DSC study, together with
SEM
/EDX and Pyrolysis/GC-MS analyses, led us to propose a three-stage process. The key parameter governing thermal stability and final content of the residue is the conjugated actions of immobilizing/cross-linking PDMS chains. Silica particles tether silicone chains through physical interactions, i.e., hydrogen bonding, facilitating a platinum radically catalyzed cross-linking reaction. Practical implications and possible improvements on
LSR
formulations are finally given.

In this study, the resveratrol was nano-encapsulated in three different sources of starch like Water chestnut Horse chestnut and Lotus stem to safeguard it from gastric conditions and to improve its bioavailability and bioactivity upon digestion. The nano-capsules were prepared using safe and eco-friendly ultra-sonication method and studied for encapsulation-efficiency, particle-size and zeta-potential measurement. These were also characterized by ATR-FTIR,
SEM
, XRD and DSC. The release behaviour of resveratrol and its activity against anti-diabetic and anti-obesity were also studied. The particle size of HSR,
LSR
and WSR was found to be 419, 797 and 691 nm with a zeta potential of -16.09, -24.28 and -14.77 and encapsulation efficiency of 81.46, 75.83 and 79.37 %, respectively. The nanoparticles showed porous or film-like structures with decreased crystallinity and higher transition temperatures. The maximum percentage of resveratrol was released in intestinal juice and exhibited higher anti-obesity and anti-diabetic activities than free resveratrol after digestion.
