The first patient was of a 71-year-old woman who was examined for abdominal protuberance. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonanc e imaging(MRI)revealed a giant tumor almost occupying the entire abdomen. En-bloc resection was performed. The tumor was 30 cm in size and weighed 6,500 g. The histological diagnosis was a well-differentiated
liposarcoma
. The second patient was a 72-year-old woman who visited our hospital after she had been diagnosed with an abdominal tumor by her family doctor. CT and MRI revealed a massive tumor involving various components. The tumor had invaded the left
ureter
and descending colon; therefore, we performed tumorectomy, left nephrectomy, and descending colectomy. The histopathological findings indicated a well-differentiated, myxoid, pleomorphic
liposarcoma
. The tumor recurred 4, 5, and 7 years after the first operation. By the fourth operation, the histological subtype of the tumor had changed to a dedifferentiated type.

The patient is a 43-year-old male, presented with numbness of the left lower extremities. Imaging studies showed a pelvic tumor 20 cm in diameter, involving the left
ureter
, left common iliac vessels, left internal and external iliac vessels, and inferior mesenteric artery, which was deemed unresectable. Tumor biopsy confirmed
liposarcoma
. As chemotherapy was not effective, he was referred to us. Following femoral-femoral artery bypass in advance, the tumor was resected with the sigmoid colon, left kidney,
ureter
, left iliac vessels, and interior mesenteric artery. Removal of the tumor caused massive venous hemorrhage from the pre-sacral plexus, which was scarcely managed by gauze packing. Open abdominal management was selected to avoid abdominal compartment syndrome by severe intestinal edema. The packed gauze was retrieved on the fourth post-operative day, with laparotomy closed. The postoperative course was uneventful.

A 76-year-old woman presented with temporary right back pain and renal dysfunction. She had undergone ileal
ureter
interposition for right ureteral resection due to retroperitoneal
liposarcoma
about forty years ago. Abdominal computed tomographic (CT) scan showed right hydronephrosis and a stenosis in the middle of the ileal
ureter
. The symptoms were relieved, and the patient was followed. Six months later, however, a contrast enhanced lesion was newly observed at the stenosis of the ileal
ureter
, and nineteen months later, right ovarian tumor and peritoneal dissemination were subsequently observed. Aiming at diagnosis and cytoreduction, right nephroureterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy were performed. Histopathological findings of the resected tumors showed common characteristics of infiltrating and proliferating adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemistry findings showed that Cytokeratin 7 and Cytokeratin 20 stained positive. On the other hand, Mucin 2 and Special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 were not found. The histopathological diagnosis was metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma of the ovary with ileal
ureter
and a wide peritoneal dissemination. The patient rejected adjuvant chemotherapy and a new lesion was found in the pelvic fourmonths afterthe surgery.

Liposarcoma
is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm composed of adipose tissue with varying degrees of atypia. These tumors grow slowly and may reach an enormous size particularly if located in the retroperitoneum. We report a 40-year-old male with a 6-month history of gradual abdominal enlargement. Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen showed a huge retroperitoneal mass with characteristic features consistent with
liposarcoma
. On laparotomy, the mass was noted to be encasing the right
ureter
for which a wide excision with en bloc ureterectomy and subsequent renal autotransplantation for organ preservation was done. Post-operative course was uneventful with excellent outcome after 6 months of follow-up. Final histopathologic diagnosis was low-grade, well differentiated
liposarcoma
, which has favorable prognosis following radical surgery. This was the first report of such a case in the Philippines.
