A tabular synopsis is presented for articles concerned with the effects of peptides on the central nervous system that appeared in the journal Peptides from 1980-1985. A table arranged alphabetically by peptide and one arranged by effects, both listing routes of injection, species, direction of change, and qualifying notes, provides easy cross-referencing of peptides and their effects. Over 80 peptides and over 135 effects are listed. The list of peptides includes, but is not limited to: ACTH, angiotensin, bombesin, bradykinin, calcitonin, casomorphin, CCK, ceruletide, CGRP, CRF, dermorphin, DSIP, dynorphin, endorphins, enkephalins, GRF, gastrin, LHRH, litorin, metkephamid, MIF-l, motilin, MSH, NPY, NT, oxytocin, ranatensin, sauvagine, substances P and K, somatostatin, TRH, VIP, vasopressin, and vasotocin. The list of effects includes, but is not limited to: aggression, alcohol, analgesia, attention, avoidance, behavior, cardiovascular regulation, catalepsy, conditioned behavior, convulsions, dopamine binding and metabolism, discrimination, drinking, EEG, exploration, feeding, fever, gastric secretion, GI motility, grooming, learning, locomotor behavior, mating, memory, neuronal activity, open field, operant behavior, rearing, respiration, satiety, scratching, seizure, sleep, stereotypy, temperature, thermoregulation and tolerance.

An 18-residue-long fragment of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide [VIP(11-28)-NH2] that is known to be analgesic was synthesized by solid-phase t-Boc methodology on a 4-methylbenzhydrylamine resin. Circular dichroism spectroscopy gave evidence that the peptid acquires about 60% helical structure in 50/50 methanol/phosphate buffer, pH 6.0, and 65% (+/-5%) helicity in 80/20 methanol/phosphate buffer pH 7.0, A 2.0 mM solution of VIP (11-28) NH2 in 80% methanol, 20% phosphate buffer pH 7.0 was subjected to 2-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies The NMR results suggested formation of an extended helical structure extending from residue 11 to 27 essentially the same region found to be helical in a VIP(1-28)-NH2 and log. This finding suggests that the sequence required for analgesia assumes a helical structure at the receptor.

We examined the efficacy of the vertical infraclavicular block for plexus brachialis anaesthesia using a nerve stimulator after introducing the method (VIP1) and after three years of clinical experience (VIP2). In two prospective studies we compared the results with each other as well as with the efficacy of the axillary block (AX). At VIP1, we found a complete analgesia in 88% of the patients, whereas in 9% a supplementation was needed. In group AX the results were significantly worse (complete: 70%, supplementation: 24%; p < 0.001). No increase of the rate of efficacy could be found when having some clinical experience with the VIP (VIP2: complete 87%, supplement: 11%). In general, the results of the VIP depended on the motoric answer to the nerve stimulation. There were no complications of the VIP such as nerve lesions or pneumothorax. The VIP using a nerve stimulator is a simple, reliable and uncomplicated method for plexus-brachialis-anaesthesia, which is easy to learn.

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Huachansu in the treatment of cancer-related pain, four Chinese databases( CNKI,VIP,Wan Fang,Sino Med) and three English databases( Cochrane Library,Medline,PubMed) were systematically and comprehensively retrieved since the establishment of each database to October 2018. Randomized controlled trials( RCTs) for the treatment of cancer-related pain with Huachansu were screened out according to pre-established inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. Rev Man5. 3 software was used for Meta-analysis. A total of 241 articles were retrieved, and finally 10 studies were included. The total sample size was 1 293,including 648 in the experimental group and 645 in the control group. The overall quality of the included studies was generally low. The results of Meta-analysis showed that Huachansu combined with Western medicine acesodynes was superior to the single use of Western medicine acesodynes in the treatment of short-term pain relief, improvement of quality of life and reduction of constipation, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, anorexia and other adverse reactions. And it also has the advantage of a shorter onset time and longer duration time of analgesia, but cannot reduce the incidence of dysuria. Based on the findings,Huachansu had a certain effect in the treatment of cancer-related pain, and a significant positive effect on the improvement of quality of life and the reduction of adverse reactions. No serious adverse reactions occurred. However, due to the small number of studies included, the low quality of the included studies, published biases and other restrictions, the evidence in this study has a low quality, and the conclusion shall be adopted with caution. The effectiveness and safety of Huachansu in the treatment of cancer-related pain remained to be further confirmed in the future with a well-designed,rigorous,and standardized report, with a large sample size, multiple centers, and sufficient follow-up time for randomized controlled trials.

The clinical and experimental researches of acupuncture and moxibustion on endometriosis during past 15 years were collected. The research progress underling the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion on endometriosis was summarized. By taken Chinese characters, i.e. "acupuncture-moxibustion" and "endometriosis" as well as the English words, i.e. "acupuncture therapy" and "endometriosis" as the searching words, the relevant articles were retrieved from Pubmed, Embase, Chinese China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, Chongqing VIP and the China Biology Medicine Disc etc. The retrieval time was from January 2003 to October 2018. As a result, 41 articles of clinical studies and 18 articles of animal experiments were screened. Of them, 20 articles (including 18 articles of animal experiments and 2 articles of clinical trial) are related to the mechanism underling acupuncture and moxibustion on endometriosis. In term of the impacts on growth factors, enzymes and enzyme inhibitors, the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion was explored on the analgesia for endometriosis, the inhibition of ectopic tissue angiogenesis and invasive adhesion, as well as the regulation of immune function and endocrine. Moreover, the limitation and prospect on the current researches were proposed so as to provide the more reliable evidence for clinical treatment of endometriosis with acupuncture and moxibustion.
