Septic Internal Jugular Vein Thrombosis (SIJVT) is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition which necessitates early clinical recognition and rapid administration of appropriate therapy. Although termed by some authors a "forgotten disease" in the antibiotic era, this entity is still present but frequently overlooked. Deep neck infections,
Lemierre syndrome
, central venous catheterization and mastoiditis are the etiologies in this series. The diagnosis of SIJVT utilized CT and Doppler ultrasound imaging. The treatment included aggressive abscesses, necrotizing
fasciitis
, mastoiditis). Anti-coagulant agents were used in order to reduce the risks of pulmonary embolism.

Life-threatening necrotizing
fasciitis
and relapsing
Lemierre syndrome
associated with Fusobacterium necrophorum septicaemia occurred in young adults with a moderate Chron's disease and a missed profound IgA deficiency. This unexpected association of a chronic bowel inflammatory syndrome with prominent IgA abnormalities and severe bacterial infection deserves careful attention by physicians faced with young patients with Chron's disease.

We report a case of an 8-year-old girl who presented with the clinical picture of
Lemierre's syndrome
(LS) secondary to bilateral mastoiditis. She developed unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) along with internal jugular vein (IJV) thrombosis, septic arthritis of her ankle and cervical
fasciitis
. Combined antimicrobial, anticoagulant and surgical treatment helped reverse all the effects of the sequelae, including nearly all the hearing loss. This is a unique case of this uncommon variant of the syndrome and with an uncommonly reported complication. The literature indicates that pediatric cases are a minority and enforces that successful management rests on awareness of the condition, vigil and promptness of communication of a multidisciplinary pediatric team.

Fusobacteria are most often associated with the classic presentation of
Lemierre's syndrome
consisting of a sore throat, internal jugular vein thrombophlebitis, and septic emboli to the lungs. Unusual presentations due to the causative organism, F. necrophorum, may occur. We present such a case involving a 17-year-old male patient with pyomyositis and
fasciitis
due to necrobacillosis. Fusobacterium spp. should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cases involving sepsis syndrome and pyomyositis.

Necrotizing fasciitis of the head and neck is a rare, life-threatening, soft tissue infection rapidly involving superficial fat and fascia with necrosis of the overlying skin. If septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein complicates a parapharyngeal abscess, the clinical condition is referred to as
Lemierre syndrome
, also known as post-anginal sepsis. A lethal case of necrotizing
fasciitis
of the neck is herewith reported that developed following tooth extraction and was complicated by thrombosis of the internal jugular vein and superior vena cava in an elderly diabetic patient.

The general dentist is usually the first health care practitioner to evaluate oral disease, initiate treatment and manage complications. Although rare, devastating outcomes of dental surgery can include Ludwig angina, mediastinitis, hemorrhage, necrotizing
fasciitis
,
Lemierre syndrome
and osteomyelitis. Osteomyelitis is a well known, but rare complication of dental extractions that can mimic multiple benign and malignant processes. In this case report, we review the diagnosis and management of an advanced postoperative mandibular osteomyelitis that developed following the removal of a mandibular third molar.

Lemierre's syndrome
(LS) is a rare life-threatening infective condition typically starting with an oropharyngeal infection causing thrombophlebitis and metastatic abscesses. The most common aetiology of LS is Fusobacterium necrophorum; however, it can also occur after infection with other organisms. LS mainly affects young healthy adults. The initial infection site can be in the head and neck or in the abdomen. The morbidity rate of this disease is high despite aggressive treatments. In this article, we report a 63-year-old male patient with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, presenting with Klebsiella pneumoniae infection-induced necrotizing
fasciitis
on the right side of the neck, leading to LS.

Fournier's gangrene is an acute, rapidly progressive, and potentially fatal, infective necrotizing
fasciitis
affecting the external genitalia, perineal or perianal regions.
Lemierre's syndrome
is a condition characterized by thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein and bacteremia caused by primarily anaerobic organisms, following a recent oropharyngeal infection. Although the literature about either of them is rich, there is no report about co-appearance of the two syndromes. We present the case of a young healthy female patient who suffered concomitantly from Fournier's gangrene and
Lemierre's syndrome
after minor surgery.

Once coined the "Forgotten Disease,"
Lemierre's syndrome
is a rare condition that results from oropharyngeal infection with the gram-negative, anaerobic
Fusobacterium necrophorum
. The typical progression of illness involves spread to adjacent structures such as the internal jugular vein with resulting thrombophlebitis. Septic emboli to distant sites are also a common sequela. Here, we present a case of
Lemierre's syndrome
in a 20-year-old, otherwise healthy, male. The patient presented with fever, sore throat, and dysphagia. Imaging revealed peritonsillar multiloculated fluid collections and necrotizing pneumonia with multiple pulmonary abscesses. The patient's hospital course was complicated by the development of necrotizing
fasciitis
in his right lower leg, which required incision and drainage with surgical washout. In addition to systemic intravenous antibiotics and anticoagulation, he underwent multiple thoracentesis procedures. The patient was ultimately transferred to a tertiary care center due to persistent fevers and lung abscesses. This case highlights the challenges of initial diagnosis, as well as the treatment choices faced by the attending physicians.
