Simple and economical measuring platforms are available to aid the ENT clinician in examining vestibulospinal disorders. The aim of our study was to quantitatively interpret Romberg test measurements. Calculating the area between the zero line and the curves in sagittal and lateral direction--for the Romberg test with closed and open eyes--enables a quantification of body sway. For the evaluation of data, we developed a triangular diagram which allows a graphic representation and quantifies vestibulospinal reaction at a glance. We assessed a group of 80 persons without any symptoms of peripheral or central vestibular system disturbance. Selected patients complaining of vestibular disorders are helpful in demonstrating the objective and quantitative interpretation of the Romberg test, which is often analysed in a more subjective way.

A case of a 12-year-old boy with Parry-Romberg syndrome was presented. Speech and hearing disorders impairing communicative process and abnormalities in the ENT examination, ultrasonography of parotid salivary glands, radiological changes of sella turcica were particularly considered.

Parry-Romberg syndrome is a rare clinical entity characterised by progressive hemifacial atrophy with appearance of 'saber'. Various neurological and otorhinolaryngological disorders are associated with this syndrome. The association of Parry -Romberg syndrome with Spasmodic dysphonia has rarely been reported. A 37 year old female presented with progressive atrophy of tissues of left side of face for 10 years and change in voice for 1 year. On examination, wasting and atrophy of tissues including tongue was noted on left side of the face. ENT examination revealed adductor spasmodic dysphonia. We report the rare association of Parry -Romberg syndrome with spasmodic dysphonia.

This paper presents a case of a perfectly healthy 36-year-old male, who went to the emergency department with a clinical picture of diffuse headache, dizziness, and asthenia with 3 days of evolution, after a long cycling race. He was admitted to the ENT Department with suspected diagnosis of peripheral vertigo. The patient developed hypoesthesia of the face, diplopia, right lateropulsion, and Romberg with preferential rightward fall, and imaging studies demonstrated an extracranial vertebral artery dissection concomitant with PICA territory infarction. This is a rare described case of a vertebral artery dissection concomitant with an infarction of the PICA territory. This case demonstrates the importance of maintaining a high degree of suspicion of stroke in patients with signs/symptoms of nystagmus/vertigo and the relevance of magnetic resonance imaging instead of tomography in the detection of these serious clinic conditions.
