Treatment with simvastatin (vasilip) at a daily dose of 20 mg combined with conventional cardiac therapy was given for 3 months to 132 patients with coronary heart disease and postinfarction cardiosclerosis with dyslipidemia. Activity of tissue and plasma antioxidative enzymes increased in 60% of the patients and decreased in 40%. Treatment with antioxidants 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-oxypiridine succinate (mexidol) and ubichinon (cudesan QIO) improved antioxidative status of the patients and clinical picture of cardiac pathology.

The type and intensity of remodeling (structural reorganization) of the myocardium in Wistar rats were studied under conditions of experimental chronic dyslipidemia and verapamil treatment. Long (64 days) atherogenic diet caused dyslipidemia and led to reduction of the heart percent weight. The cytopathic effect of dyslipidemia manifested in more intense lytic injuries of cardiomyocytes, development of diffuse and small focal cardiosclerosis under conditions of manifest circulatory disorders. Remodeling of the myocardium during various periods of the experiment manifested in a higher connective tissue/cardiomyocyte volume ratio (by 74% after 30 days and by 58-62% after 64 days of experiment). Verapamil injection promoted attenuation of lytic changes in cardiomyocytes and in fibroplastic reactions of the stroma, but failed to prevent them completely.

The authors considered systemic approaches to disclosing factors that promote metabolic syndrome formation and associated risk of ciculatory system diseases in drivers. Examination covered drivers with metabolic syndrome and without it. Findings are that metabolic disorders developing in drivers are occupationally conditioned. Length of service can determine cases numbers of cardiovascular disorders, diabetes mellitus manifestations, more frequent combination of hyperglycemia and/or hyper-, dyslipidemia with abdominal obesity. The drivers with length of service over 15 years, aged over 35, demonstrated arterial hypertension in 35% of cases, postinfarction cardiosclerosis in 43% of cases, disorders of cardiac rhythm and conductivity in 55% of cases, and the number increases with length of service and reaches 80% of total examinees number by 55 years of age. Diabetes mellitus was diagnosed in 37% of cases (in 75% of the workers first diagnosed) with over 20 years of service, average age of 50 years.
