To investigate the effect of maternal and dietary selenium on antioxidant status in testis and apoptosis of germ cells during spermatogenesis of their offspring, selected Taihang Black Goats (n=119) were randomly allotted to four treatment groups. They were fed the experimental diet with different Se levels (from Se-enriched yeast) for 174 d from 60 d prior to lactation to weaning of kids. The treatments were: (1) Group 1 (control), basal diet without Se supplementation, (2) Group 2, the same basal diet supplemented 0.5mg Se/kg DM, (3) Group 3, the same basal diet supplemented 2mg Se/kg DM and (4) Group 4, the same basal diet supplemented 4 mg Se/kg DM. Thirty days after weaning, testis samples of the young male goats were collected for mRNA expression and analyzing the antioxidant status and Se concentration, as well as the population of apoptotic germ cells by TUNEL assay. The results show that mRNA expression of apoptosis genes (Bcl-2, Bax and Caspase 8) were significantly higher in Groups 1 and 4 than that in Groups 2 and 3. The same trend was observed in the population of apoptotic cells analyzed by TUNEL assay.

-Px activity between Groups 3 and 4. The lowest MDA content was obtained in Group 2 and a significant decrease was observed in Groups 1, 3 and 4. These data suggest that

maternal and dietary Se could influence antioxidant status in the testis of their offspring and the oxidative stress related to Se from the dam could modulate mRNA expression of apoptosis genes and apoptosis of germ cells during spermatogenesis. It is possible that Se supplementation of the dam's diet during gestation and lactation could be a way to supply the Se necessary for normal development of reproductive function of their offspring.

(GSSG)] in the blood, as well as the correlation between serial changes of these biomarkers and prognosis, were analyzed in 2 patients with postoperative IPF-AE associated with lung cancer. Interestingly, the serial changes of the serum rGSH/GSSG ratio may suggest the possibility of predicting the onset of postoperative AE and/or survival, along with serum NE levels.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the toxicity induced by the increasing doses of potassium dichromate in rabbit

. Twenty-eight adult does of 6 months of age were divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D; n = 7), with comparable average body weight (bw). Group A rabbits received only distilled water daily and served as a control, while groups B, C, and D received, respectively, 10 mg/kg bw, 20 mg/ kg bw, and 40 mg/kg bw of potassium dichromate via gavage for 28 days, after which animals were anesthetized with ether vapor and sacrificed. Previous studies of Dendrobium officinale on anti-hypertension effect always focused only on the blood pressure,while polysaccharides of D. officinale( DOP) have been traditionally considered as one of the main effective substances. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract from D. officinale(
DOE
) on blood pressure,Glu and lipid profile in metabolic hypertensive rats induced by comprehensive dietary factors,and elucidate the composition of effective fractions from
DOE
. A metabolic hypertension model of rat induced by high-sugar,high-fat diet and alcohol drinking was adopted to evaluate the effect of
DOE
on hypertension and other metabolic disorders. Blood pressure,Glu and lipid profile were detected to find the features and differences of
DOE
and DOP on metabolic hypertension. Furthermore,
DOE
was separated with three different common solvents according to the polarity. Along with blood pressure,Glu,UA and lipid profile,hemorheology,oxidative index and aortas structure changes were adopted to evaluate the comprehensive effects of the most effective fractions on metabolic hypertension. Finally,HPLC-DAD-MS was adopted to identify the components of the most effective fraction. The SBP and Glu of models were decreased significantly after administration of
