A guanine-nucleotide-binding protein (G-protein) was purified from cholate extracts of bovine brain membranes by sequential DEAE-Sephacel, Ultrogel AcA-34, heptylamine-Sepharose and Sephadex G-150 chromatography. Guanosine 5'-[gamma-[35S]thio]triphosphate (GTP[35S])-binding activity copurified with a 25,000 Da peptide and a 35,000-36,000 Da protein doublet. Neither pertussis toxin nor cholera toxin catalysed the ADP-ribosylation of a protein associated with the GTP[35S]-binding activity. Photoaffinity labelling of the purified protein with 8-azido[gamma-32P]GTP indicated that the GTP-binding site resides on the 25,000 Da protein. The 35,000-36,000 Da protein doublet was electrophoretically indistinguishable from the beta-subunits of other GTP-binding proteins, and the 36,000 Da protein was recognized by antiserum to oligomeric Gt. The purified protein specifically bound 17.2 nmol of GTP[35S]/mg of protein. The Kd of the binding site for radioligand was approx. 15 nM. This study aimed to identify behaviours that occur with some frequency and potentially raise issues related to boundaries in the supervisor-trainee relationship. An

questionnaire was distributed to the mailboxes of 154 residents in the departments of psychiatry, internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynaecology at four hospitals affiliated with
Brown
University Medical School. Residents were asked to report whether they had encountered specific behaviours from supervisors during medical training, the frequency of these experiences, and the professional status of the supervisor involved in each episode. There was a significant reported incidence of behaviours related to academic/professional boundaries, personal boundaries, and dating boundaries. Some of these behaviours raise issues related to exploitation. The major sources of these reported boundary behaviours were hospital-based clinical faculty, university-based academic faculty, and senior house staff. The potentially adverse effects of boundary behaviours on the individual student, the teacher-student relationship, and the doctor-patient relationship are discussed. Future research is recommended to clarify the limits of appropriate behaviour between supervisors and trainees in the medical learning environment

Peer teaching by medical students is increasingly consid- ered an effective and efficient instructional modality with value for both teachers and learners. In 2012, twelve senior medical students participated in an inaugural, four-week Medical Education Elective at The Alpert Medical School of
Brown
University. The first week emphasized education theory and skills. During the remaining three weeks, participants served as a core group of instructors in a Clinical Skills Clerkship (CSC), a three-week required course transitioning rising third-year students to clinical clerkships. Senior near-peer instructors (NPIs) gained substantive experience in developing curriculum, facilitating small group sessions, teaching clinical skills, mentoring, providing feedback, and grading an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). evaluations by learners (n=98), NPIs demonstrated a high degree of teaching competence. This innovative, by-invitation-only, annual elective is the most substantive medical education experience for medical students described in the literature.

and silent female subjects-the self-styled 'Ovum Club'-without whose involvement in the original research programme in Oldham in 1969-1978 Louise would never have been born, to be followed by millions of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) babies worldwide. It ponders a few of the characteristics of the celebratory narratives of the development of IVF as have so far been told and draws attention to some of the paradoxes, inconsistencies, misunderstandings and confusions apparent in texts which have played a crucial role in shaping public awareness of this branch of medical science for 50 years. In conclusion, it points out that without hearing a range of voices of those women involved in the original experimental research who mostly lost more than they gained, a more compassionate historiography, and a balanced and comprehensive History of this branch of medicine will never be attained.
