A 10-year-old male domestic shorthair cat died during anesthesia. Grossly, the lungs had multiple nodules corresponding to inflamed airways (bronchitis and bronchiolitis). Microscopically, cuffs and nodular aggregates of lymphocytes and plasma cells surrounded airways. Peribronchiolar fibrosis was also common. Globule leukocytes infiltrated the respiratory epithelium of noninflamed or mildly inflamed bronchi. Argyrophilic and filamentous organisms, consistent with cilia-associated respiratory bacillus-like organisms (CLO), were intermixed with cilia of respiratory epithelium. Ultrastructurally, CLO were longer and thinner than cilia and had a distinct trilaminar membrane, central electron-lucent areas, and no specialized external structures. Silver stained lung sections from 18 additional feline airways revealed similar bacilli in 2/9 normal lungs, 1/7 lungs with bronchitis and bronchiolitis, and 1/2 lungs with pneumonia. The significance of CLO in the pulmonary lesions was not determined.

Silver linden, Tilia argentea Desf. ex DC (Tiliaceae) leaves are used in the treatment of common cold and bronchitis. In order to evaluate this information, antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of the two main flavonoid glycosides: kaempferol-3,7-O-alpha-dirhamnoside and quercetin-3,7-O-alpha-dirhamnoside isolated from the leaves, were investigated. For the antinociceptive activity, p-benzoquinone-induced writhing test and for the anti-inflammatory activity, carrageenan-induced hind paw edema model in mice were used. Both compounds were shown to possess potent antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activity at 50 mg/kg dose, per os, without inducing any apparent acute toxicity as well as gastric damage.

This study aimed to develop a visual protein chip that can differentiate the antibodies induced by avian influenza virus, Newcastle disease virus, infectious bronchitis virus and infectious bursal disease virus, simultaneously. Proteins from the four viruses were purified and spotted onto an aldehyde group-modified glass slide at 2mg/ml. After that, the protein chip was reacted with the corresponding positive serum against these viruses, hybridized with a colloidal gold-labeled secondary antibody and visualized by silver staining. A diagnostic protein chip was constructed to differentiate antibodies of four poultry diseases This protein chip showed good sensitivity compared with traditional methods, and it was more than 400 times as sensitive as the agar gel precipitin methods used to detect avian influenza and infectious bursal disease. The protein chip was used to test known serum samples of the four poultry diseases and field serum samples. The results showed that this method could hybridize specifically with the corresponding antibodies with strong signals and without cross-hybridization. In conclusion, this protein chip can be used to differentiate the antibodies induced by the four avian viruses.

Haemophilus Influenza leads to respiratory infections such as sinusitis, acute otitis media, pneumonia and bronchitis. In addition, it causes invasive infections such as cellulite, septic arthritis, and meningitis. Therefore, quick and sensitive detection of H. influenza is of great importance in medical microbiology. In this study, a novel DNA-based bioassay was developed to the monitoring of Haemophilus influenza genome in human plasma samples using binding of pDNA with cDNA. DNA hybridization strategy was used to investigation of DNAs binding. For this purpose, silver nanoparticle doped graphene quantum dots inks functionalized by D-penicillamine (Ag NPs-DPA-GQDs) were synthesized and deposited on the surface of glass carbon electrode (GCE). Also, gold nanoparticles functionalized with cysteamine (CysA-AuNPs) were deposited on the surface of the Ag-DPA-GQDs modified GCE. Afterward, thiolated DNA probe was immobilized on the surface of the modified electrode. DNA hybridization was monitored using square wave voltammetry (SWV) technique. Engineered genosensor indicated good performance with high specificity and sensitivity for detection of Haemophilus influenza genome. Under optimal conditions, linear range and low limit of quantitation (LLOQ) were obtained as target concentrations ranging from 1 pM-1 ZM and 1 ZM, respectively. The designed biosensor also showed high capability of discriminating one-base, two-base and three-base mismatched sequences. Also, the prepared genosensor could be easily regenerated and reused to evaluate hybridization process.
