A case of a 45-year-old HIV-infected male who developed a severe throat infection with serious complications is reported. Despite a low CD4 count, the patient suffered only one significant illness in ten years since his diagnosed HIV infection. Overly aggressive antibiotic therapy caused fungal and
thrush
infections, leading to dehydration and extreme weight loss. The patient was treated with rehydration therapy, antifungal agents, and TMP-SMX, after which other complications, including multiple infections and
B-cell lymphoma
, were diagnosed. He refused chemotherapy after one course of treatment and was sent home with hospice care.

A 53-year-old man developed delayed-onset neutropenia 6 weeks after completing first-line therapy with rituximab, cyclophosphamide, mitoxantrone, vincristine, and prednisone for high-grade
B-cell lymphoma
. Bone marrow biopsy demonstrated hypercellular marrow with normal maturation. He also developed interstitial pneumonitis, an adverse event associated with rituximab use. Infiltrates of T cells were found in the patient's lungs. For the next 6 months, the patient required subcutaneous granulocyte colony-stimulating factor 300 mug twice/week to maintain a granulocyte count above 1000 cells/mm3. He also received oral antibiotics for mouth sores and
thrush
. Based on the existing evidence, monitoring blood counts for as long as 8 weeks after rituximab therapy may be advisable, although the literature reports that neutropenia can develop up to 1 year after treatment. The development of a registry and uniform testing may help uncover the cause of this delayed-onset neutropenia.

Lymphomas can be simply defined as malignant neoplasms of lymphocytes and their precursor cells. We report a case of a diffuse large
B-cell lymphoma
of the maxilla, in an 11-year-old male patient who reported with a diffuse swelling of the maxillary labial mucosa accompanied with
oral candidiasis
. A subsequent biopsy and immunohistochemistry were instrumental in this diagnosis. What makes this case significant is that the incidence of primary DLBCL in the oral cavity of a minor which is not very common and has rarely been specified earlier in the literature.

Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is an extremely rare disease caused by a disruption in the forkhead box N1 (
FOXN1
) gene, with an incidence of <1 per 1 000 000 live births. We report a boy aged 4 months who presented with a history of fever for 3 weeks and enlarged lymph nodes. The fever was associated with dry cough and runny nose. On physical examination, we noted
oral thrush
, generalised lymphadenopathy, nail dystrophy and alopecia. Flow cytometry of lymph node biopsy showed high-grade
B-cell lymphoma
. In addition, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection was documented by PCR. The diagnosis of SCID was made by genetic testing, which revealed a homozygous variant of the
FOXN1
gene. The variant was confirmed with Sanger sequencing. Management of EBV infection and lymphoma was initiated; unfortunately, the patient passed away on day 45 of hospitalisation.
