A study of therapeutic efficacy was carried out in 118 patients with oral mucositis (recurrent oral aphthous ulceration, erosive lichen planus, herptic
stomatitis
and infectious oral mucosal hematoma) at random. As a topical medication, Koukangning gargle was applied to 59 patients of the experimental group, 29 patients of the control group 1 applied Dobell's solution to rinse their mouths, and 30 patients of the control group 2 applied Koutai solution. A satisfactory result was observed in the experimental group, its effectiveness and effective rates rose more than those of control group 1 at both treatments for 3 days and 6 days. Between the two groups, there were markedly significant difference (P < 0.005, P < 0.01, P < 0.005, P < 0.005). Koukangning gargle was nontoxic and no side-effects in the clinical tests. Its efficacy was no significant difference compared with the control group 2. Experimental study demonstrates that it possesses anti-inflamation effect and excellent antibiotic effect, therefore it is a new gargle for rinse mouth combined traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine.

The genome of wheat rosette stunt virus (WRSV), a plant rhabdovirus, is a single negative strand RNA. It encodes five viral structural proteins: the glycoprotein (G), the matrix protein (M), the nucleocapsid protein (N), the large protein (L) and the non?structural protein (NS), which was later proved to be a viral structural protein too and existed in a variety of phosphorylation forms in case of vascular
stomatitis
virus (VSV). In this paper we demonstrated that NS protein of WRSV, either bound with the viral nucleocapsid or expressed in bacteria could be in vitro phosphorylated in presence of viral nucleocapsid. We concluded that the NS protein of WRSV was a phosphorylated protein and it might exist in both phosphorylated and dephosphorylated forms in virions. Our results excluded the possibility that the NS protein could be autophosphorylated. The L protein, the major component of viral RNA dependent RNA polymerase is associated with the protein kinase for phosphorylation of NS protein.

Geographic tongue, also called benign migratory glossitis, is a common and superficial benign inflammatory disorder that affects the tongue epithelium. The majority of geographic tongue lesions typically manifest as irregular central erythematous patches. These lesions, which are caused by the loss of filiform papillae, are defined by an elevated whitish band-like border that can change location, size, and pattern over a period of time. Histological observations of the oral mucosa affected by geographic tongue revealed nonspecific inflammation. Some reports described cases of migratory
stomatitis
, wherein lesions simultaneously manifested on the extra lingual oral mucosa. This condition is also called ectopic geographic tongue, which is clinically and histologically similar to the type normally confined to the tongue. In most cases, patients are asymptomatic and do not require treatment. The condition may spontaneously exhibit periods of remission and exacerbation with good prognosis. The specific etiology of geographic tongue remains unknown. Geographic tongue is age-related and is prevalent among young individuals. Various etiological factors that have been suggested in literature include immunological factors, genetic factors, atopic or allergic tendency, emotional stress, tobacco consumption, hormonal disturbances, and zinc deficiency. Geographic tongue may coexist with other disorders, such as fissured tongue, psoriasis, diabetes mellitus, gastroin- testinal diseases, burning mouth syndrome, and Down syndrome. Experts currently disagree on whether geographic tongue is an oral manifestation of psoriasis. Moreover, some scholars suggest that geographic tongue is a prestage of fissured tongue. The objective of this review is to summarize current research on risk factors of geographic tongue.
