On occasion gastric ulcers may be recognized on plain abdominal radiographs. A case in which a
gastric ulcer
was diagnosed on the plain abdominal radiograph, illustrating the importance of careful scrutiny of the plain film in all cases of
acute abdomen
, is presented. The existence of the lesser curvature ulcer was confirmed on barium contrast studies.

The article presents results of instrumental examinations of 152 patients in detection of causes of the appearance of false
acute abdomen
. Gastroduodenoscopy (90 observations) has established that its appearance is associated with acute gastroduodenitis (in 42% of the patients), acute gastritis (28%), erosive gastritis (27.4%), acute
gastric ulcer
(2.7%). The ultrasonic investigation (26 patients) of patients with pseudoabdominal syndrome is most effective in acute diseases of the kidneys, liver, pancreas. The article also presents data on the role of laparocentesis (25 cases) and laparoscopy (15) in the detection of causes of pseudosurgical pains in the abdomen.

We present a case of a primiparous patient at 35 weeks' gestation who had had laparoscopic gastric banding, and who presented to labor and delivery with protracted vomiting followed by an
acute abdomen
and fetal distress. An emergency surgery revealed acute
gastric ulcer
perforation. This complication, although rare, should be considered.

Surgical emergencies caused by bowel metastases from carcinoma of the lung are very rare. We describe two cases of symptomatic gastrointestinal metastatic small cell carcinoma: the first one concerns a 69-year-old man with an
acute abdomen
and the second is a 72-year-old man complaining of a
gastric ulcer
symptoms. We also discuss the current management and the prognosis of these patients.

The article presents the case of a male patient, hospitalized due to severe pain in the upper abdomen area, nausea, and vomiting. The patient was diagnosed with surgical
acute abdomen
, for which emergency surgery is performed. Upon penetration into the peritoneal cavity, stomach inspection shows at the medio-gastric level, on the greater curvature, a callous
gastric ulcer
, with a central perforation. A large excision is decided up to the healthy (normal) gastric tissue, and the resulting pieces are sent to the pathological anatomy laboratory. The histopathological exam reveals signet ring cell recent gastric carcinoma. The biopsy performed 1 month after surgery, prelevated from the antropyloric zone, reveals antropyloric gastritis with moderate activity and Helicobacter pylori positive. Due to the fact that such cases when this gastric cancer type is diagnosed in recent stages are extremely rare, we considered it useful to present it and look into its macroscopic and microscopic aspects, as well as into the differentiating diagnosis.

Invasive aspergillosis is most commonly seen in patients with immune disorders and usually in the lung. Local invasive aspergillosis of the gastrointestinal system is quite rare. A 13-year-old female without immune deficiency presented with
acute abdomen
due to full-thickness necrosis of the gastric fundus. The necrotic gastric wall was excised and the stomach repaired. The pathology revealed a
gastric ulcer
with invading Aspergillus hyphae and spores. Aspergillosis is an opportunistic infection and its spores cannot survive in the normal gastric mucosa. The Aspergillus spores in this case probably grew on a background of
gastric ulcer
and caused wall necrosis and that the surgical treatment possibly provided a cure because it remained localized to the gastric wall.
