A 79-year-old female with pemphigus vulgaris developed a cytomegalovirus (CMV)-associated
gastric ulcer
whilst on standard immunosupression with azathioprine and prednisolone. Following treatment with ganciclovir and ranitidine the ulcer healed. CMV infection frequently involves the gastrointestinal tract of immunocompromised patients causing inflammation, ulceration and haemorrhage.
