A patient with hereditary spherocytosis and silicosis who developed an IgA(lambda) monoclonal gammopathy is reported. It was thought that a combination of hereditary factors, a chronic hemolytic stimulus to the reticuloendothelial system and an adjuvant effect provided by presence of diffuse silica might have contributed to the development of monoclonal gammopathy.
