The authors presents a series of patients with psychopathic conditions of dyscrinic and post-processive origin. In two cases the syndrome was associated to evolutive schizophrenia and an affective disease with potential handicapping risk. In another three cases there was gonadal insufficiency, spasmophilia and hypophyseal adenoma. The differential diagnosis is discussed, of psychopathoid conditions, in contrast with other psychopathies, and the value of modern means of diagnosis is stressed. A synopsis is also presented of the therapy currently employed, as well as considerations on the evolution and prognosis of psychopathoid conditions.

This is a case presentation of a 52 year old woman with a past history of schizophrenia who develops an acute psychosis. The point is emphasized that a deterioration in mental state in a patient with schizophrenia should not too readily be attributed to the 'functional' psychosis. Psychiatric patients may present with organic mental disorders requiring medical or surgical intervention. Thus the psychiatrist must always be alert to the possibility of new pathology and examine carefully for signs of organic disturbances. This case turned out to be one of acute hyperparathyroidism cured by surgical removal of an adenoma of the parathyroid gland.

A 46-year-old man presented with a huge splenic artery dissecting aneurysm that had been incidentally found and was successfully resected before rupture. The histopathologic findings were compatible with segmental mediolytic arteriopathy (SMA). Simultaneous involvement of the left renal and right common iliac artery was observed. The patient was also found to have an adrenocortical adenoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, hepatocellular carcinoma and schizophrenia. The relationship between SMA and other accompanying diseases was discussed.
