The historic, physical, laboratory, and histologic findings for 74 cats with chronic renal disease were reviewed. Most cats were older, and no breed or sex predilection was detected. This most common clinical signs detected by owners were lethargy, anorexia, and weight loss. Dehydration and emaciation were common physical examination findings. Common laboratory findings were nonregenerative anemia, lymphopenia, azotemia,
hypercholesterolemia
, metabolic acidosis, hyperphosphatemia, and isosthenuria. The most common morphologic diagnosis was chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis of unknown cause. The other pathologic diagnoses were renal lymphosarcoma, renal amyloidosis, chronic
pyelonephritis
, chronic glomerulonephritis, polycystic renal disease, and pyogranulomatous nephritis secondary to feline infectious peritonitis.

In a Cairo clinic 17 of 41 patients with chronic
pyelonephritis
secondary to urinary schistosomiasis presented with classical features of the nephrotic syndrome, two-thirds being hypertensive and the majority having glomerular filtration rates within the normal range.
Hypercholesterolaemia
was found in one-third of the patients. Urinary sediments from these patients contained a preponderance of pus cells, red cells, granular casts, or pus casts. In addition to patches of
pyelonephritis
, the glomeruli showed diffuse and focal glomerulosclerosis. Electron microscopy revealed basement-membrane-like deposits in the hypertrophied axial endothelial cells and electron-dense deposits along the glomerular basement membrane. This variety of nephrotic syndrome associated with schistosomal
pyelonephritis
was the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome seen in the clinic.

We report three cases of multicentric Castleman's disease (MCD) successfully treated with anti-interleukin-6 receptor antibody (tocilizumab). Tocilizumab was administered intravenously at a dose of 8 mg/kg every 2 weeks. In each case, tocilizumab alleviated symptoms, including generalized fatigue, pyrexia, and alleviated biochemical abnormalities, including anemia, hypoalbuminemia, hypergammaglobulinemia, and increased C-reactive protein (CRP). Side effects included
hypercholesterolemia
, acute
pyelonephritis
, mild inflammation of the parotid glands, and upper respiratory system inflammation. Other severe side effects were not observed. These results indicate that tocilizumab is effective for the treatment of MCD. This is the first report on tocilizumab efficacy for Castleman's disease after approval for use for Castleman's disease.
