Report of a case of prolapse of the lower end of the ureter into the bladder. Observed in a 11 year-old boy with a history of recurrent urinary infection. The bladder deformity was seen as a non-opaque filling defect which possibly ressembles the shadow of a simple ureterocele. The child required resection of the prolapsed segment and ureteral reimplantation using the combined suprahiatal and infrahiatal routes.

Although simple ureteroceles are commonly encountered on urography, transurethal prolapse of the ureterocele in a male is an exceedingly rare complication. A fourth such case, with graphic, potentially confusing ultrasound and urographic findings, is presented and discussed.

We report three patients in whom hydronephrosis was diagnosed by ultrasonography in utero. In two fetuses, ureteroceles were detected prenatally and these proved to be the cause of obstruction. In the third, bilateral simple ureteroceles were discovered immediately after birth. In the last patient, failure to see ureteroceles in utero may have been related to the phenomenon of ureterocele eversion and prolapse into the ureter. Ultrasonographers should be aware of this prolapse phenomenon as a potential pitfall for both the in utero and postpartum diagnosis of ureterocele.

There are numerous etiologies of benign vulvo-vaginal tumefactions in children. However, the etiological diagnosis can usually be based on clinical data after careful examination. Para-urethral cysts are the main cause of labial and vestibular tumefactions; they are generally cured by simple puncture. Solid vaginal tumors are uncommon, but they always require surgical resection in order to exclude the exceptional and severe malignant tumours. Neonatal hydrocolpos is frequent in our experience and must always be treated surgically; associated malformations are frequent and must be systematically searched for. Ectopic prolapsed ureterocele and circular prolapse of the urethral mucosa are easily recognizable and need surgical treatment.

Ectopic ureteroceles frequently prolapse into the urethra. Inversion of ureteroceles into their own ureters has also been described. This patient showed a ureterocele which not only prolapsed into the urethra but also into the ipsilateral orthotopic ureter. We have not seen nor found a description of prolapse of a ureterocele into the ipsilateral orthotopic ureter.

The author reports a case of a 2 year-old girl, with prolapse of the urethra treated since birth, twice by electro-coagulations. The persistence of the symptoms required further urological examinations (Urography, Ultrasonography), which revealed an ureterocele, prolapsed into the urethra with total duplication of the urinary tract. The operation consisted of a nephro-ureterectomy of the upper tract, with resection and suture of the exteriorized part of the ureterocele in the urethra.

Most ureteroceles in adults are incidental findings at excretory urography. Symptomatic ureteroceles are unusual and prolapse of the ureterocele is particularly uncommon. We describe a woman with prolapse of a ureterocele through the urethra, which resulted in strangulation and partial necrosis of the ureterocele wall.

Ureteroceles in childhood usually are associated with ureteral duplication. A 7-year-old girl with a single system ureterocele is described. The patient presented clinically with urinary infection and prolapse of the ureterocele, causing urinary retention.

A case of caeco-ureterocele is presented, which is a rare special form of ectopic ureterocele and which was first described by Stephens. Its differential diagnostic characteristics compared with the prolapse of ureterocele are described. The article also discusses possible embryological causes which might explain this peculiar type of malformation.

Two cases of ureteroceles are reported. Case 1: Transurethral prolapse of a simple ureterocele was seen in a 27-year-old woman. Bilateral vesicoureteral neostomy was carried out, and she has been living with no vesicoureteral reflux or complaints. Case 2: An ectopic ureterocele was seen in a 51-year-old woman. She had right complete double renal systems, neither of which was dilated. There were three stones in the ureterocele and several stones in the upper renal system. Ureterocelectomy and plasty of the ureteral orifices were performed, and a complete cure was achieved.
