We reviewed the clinical records of 38 patients with benign neoplasms or tumors of the larynx that were examined in the Department of Otolaryngology, Kurume University Hospital during the 10-year period from 1971 to 1980. There were 24 patients with papilloma, 4 amyloid
tumor
, 2 hemangioma, 2 chondroma, 1 neurofibroma, 1 pleomorphic adenoma, 1 eosinophilic granuloma, 2 non-specific swelling of the ventricular fold, and 1 so-called
prolapse
of the ventricle. Some of these conditions, such as chondroma, neurofibroma, pleomorphic adenoma and eosinophilic granuloma, are vary rare.

A case is reported of malignant schwannomatosis (malignant transformation of von Recklinghausen's disease) with catecholamine production in a patient with multiple intracranial aneurysms. The patient had a history of episodic hypertension and elevated levels of catecholamines in the serum and 24-hour urinary excretion. Postmortem examination revealed diffuse central nervous system (CNS) dissemination of the
tumor
from the thoracolumbar spinal malignant schwannoma. A high concentration of catecholamines was demonstrated in the
tumor
tissue, and histochemical and electron microscopy studies suggested the presence of catecholamines in the cytoplasm of some of the
tumor
cells. This patient's clinical and radiological features, including severe headache, vomiting, stiff neck,
ptosis
of the eye ipsilateral to the internal carotid-posterior communicating artery aneurysms, and local arterial narrowing, mimicked those of subarachnoid hemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm. However, the clinical picture was caused by diffuse CNS dissemination of the
tumor
, another primary malignant schwannoma of the oculomotor nerve, and intimal fibrous thickening of the arterial wall.

We present three cases of
prolapse
of ureteral
tumor
.
Prolapse
of a ureteral
tumor
is usually associated with antegrade intussusception of the ureter, and is thought to be a sign of noninvasiveness. In such a case segmental ureterectomy may be justified.

Since the first reports of pituitary oncocytoma by Kovacs and Horvath, and Landolt and Oswald increasing numbers of cases have been reported with the advent of electron microscopy. It has been posturated that more cases were not precisely diagnosed because of lack of electron microscopic study. We reported two cases of pituitary oncocytoma and discussed clinicopathological aspects. Case 1 A 66-year-old woman had a 6 year history of visual impairment. Neurological examination revealed loss of vision on the left and decreased visual acuity (0.3) with temporal hemianopsia on the right. The endocrinological study revealed moderate panhypopituitarism. Plain skull X-ray, computed tomography and cerebral angiography showed the findings of a pituitary tumor with suprasellar extension. Subfrontal removal of the
tumor
followed by irradiation was performed. Case 2 A 50-year-old man was well until 8 years previously, when he experienced loss of libido. Three years before entry, the left sided exophthalmos and
ptosis
were noted. Neurological examination showed a severe visual impairment with a bitemporal field defect, bilateral optic atrophy and disturbance of eye movements on the left. Endocrinological study revealed panhypopituitarism. Radiological studies showed a pituitary tumor with a suprasellar extension and an invasion into the left orbital cavity. Transcranial and then transsphenoidal partial removal of the
tumor
were done followed by irradiation. Histological examination of the tumors revealed a poorly granurated adenoma with very weak affinity to acid dyes.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

In a 46 year old patient periorbital pain, miosis and
ptosis
, i.e. Raeder paratrigeminal neuralgia, were caused by a temporal lobe glioblastoma. This is the fifth case in the literature in which this syndrome was due to a
neoplasm
.

A 20-year-old asymptomatic woman suddenly had complete right ophthalmoplegia associated with right
ptosis
and impairment of the sensory and motor functions of the right papillary cranial nerve. These symptoms were found to be caused by a chromophobe adenoma of the pituitary gland. Complete resolution of the patient's symptoms followed surgical aspiration of the
tumor
with subsequent radiation therapy.

A 64-year-old man presented with a nonrhegmatogenous retinal detachment, proptosis, and
ptosis
. Clinical examination, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography and computed tomographic (CT) scan confirmed the presence of concomitant intraocular
tumor
and orbital mass. The CT scan of the chest and a lung biopsy specimen revealed the presence of an unsuspected asymptomatic bronchogenic carcinoma that rapidly developed widespread metastases. Metastasis to the eye from bronchogenic carcinoma may occur simultaneously with orbital metastasis, and this may be associated with rapid progression and growth.

The study purpose was to determine to what extent the tubal ligation operation was responsible for a hysterectomy at a later date. Materials were collected from Eden Hospital, Medical College and Hospitals in Calcutta, India over the August 1974-July 1979 period. A total of 298 hysterectomies were performed during this period. Of these, 36 patients had previous ligation of tubes. All of these cases were studied clinically during preoperative, operative, and postoperative periods. Their histopathological reports were scrutinized. Findings of postligation hysterectomy cases were compared with that of nonligation cases. Postligation cases were labeled as group 1 and nonligation cases as group 2. Out of 36 cases in group 1, only 2 patients attended after mneopause. In regard to the ligation hysterectomy interval, it was less than 5 years in 3 cases, between 5-10 years in 12 cases, between 11-15 years in 10 cases, and between 16-20 years in 10 cases. Only 1 case had a ligation-hysterectomy interval of 21 years or more. The patient who attended within 8 years usually came with symptoms of uterine
prolapse
, excessive white discharge, and in 2 cases with lump abdomen for hydrosalpinx. Menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, and acute abdominal symnptoms were more common among postligation patients. Fibroid, endometriosis, hydrosalpinx, polycystic ovary, endometrial polyp, and dysfunctional uterine hemorrhage were more common among postligation cases than in the nonligation group. Of the 2 cases of death in group 2, 1 case of malignant ovarian
tumor
died within 24 hours of the operation and the other patient died on the 8th postoperative day after Wertheim's operation. In group 1 there was no mortality. Morbidity was not much different among the 2 groups. Thus the risk of operation among postligation cases was as minimum as in other cases.

Fourteen patients with tuberculosis of the orbit and lacrimal gland seen over a period of 20 years have been presented. The majority of them were between the ages of 4 to 15 years. Males were affected twice as frequently as females. Left side was affected four times as frequently as the right side. There were eight patients of periostitis of orbital margin, one patient of dacryoadenitis, three patients of tuberculoma of orbital tissues, and two patients of tuberculoma of maxillary sinus. One patient with periostitis had involvement of the greater and lesser wings of sphenoid in addition to the involvement of upper-outer orbital margin. Two periostitis patients had
prolapse
of the palpebral portion of the lacrimal gland. The clinical presentation and gross appearance of the tuberculoma of the lacrimal gland was similar to those found in benign mixed
tumor
. The patients with tuberculoma of orbital tissues presented as pseudotumors. The mimicry of tuberculoma of maxillary sinus to carcinoma has been mentioned. Associated tuberculous lesions were pulmonary in eight patients, cervical lymphadenitis in ten patients, intestinal in one patient, and caries spine in one patient. In two patients the disease developed in the absence of any other tuberculous lesion discovered in the body. The cases were cured by wide surgical removal of all the diseased tissues combined with antituberculous chemotherapy.

A case of giant intracranial aneurysm which almost completely occluded the internal carotid artery and was diagnosed angiographically by prolonged injection technique was reported. A 62-year-old house-wife was admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery of The Asahi General Hospital, complaining of headache, nausea, and left
ptosis
. Neurological examination revealed left IInd, IIIrd, IVth, and VIth cranial nerve palsy. Films and laminagrams of the skull demonstrated the double floor of the sella trucica. Plain CT scan showed an oval high density area without surrounding low density area in the left middle cranial fossa. A left carotid angiogram revealed almost complete occlusion of the internal carotid artery at the foramen lacerum. Good cross filling through the anterior communicating artery was seen in the right carotid angiogram. Pre-operative diagnosis was pituitary tumor which extended to the middle cranial fossa. Left fronto-temporal craniotomy was performed and the
tumor
was suspected to be a giant intracranial aneurysm. Post-operative carotid angiogram by prolonged injection technique also showed a blood channel in the aneurysm and a part of the aneurysm. Left carotid ligation was carried out following intracranial surgery and her symptoms were remarkably improved. Apart from left VIth cranial nerve palsy she showed no abnormal neurological findings at discharge. Usefulness of the prolonged injection technique for differential diagnosis of the parasellar
tumor
was stressed.
