The acute enteritis in the postneonatal period with or without dyspepsia appeared with an incidence ranging from 18,9% to 27,6% during twenty years period (1956--1975) observations in a general children's autopsy material. Bacteriological and serological analysis may be of success and complete the pathologic-anatomical diagnoses.

and/or otitis media. The acute enteritis can always be detected as an important feature in regard to the cause of death. Most children die within less than twenty-four hours from hospital admission. The hemorrhagic, ulcerous and necrotic form of the enterocolitis predominate the perinatal and neonatal period, frequently combined with peritonitis and bowel perforation. Bacteriological examinations should be obtained. This form of the acute enteritis and enterocolitis of the newborns must be taken into consideration of the ileus symptoms differential diagnosis.

Forty-one patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were treated with a weekly low-dose of methotrexate for a mean period of 32 months (range, 5-81 months) and were given a mean total dose of 954 mg (range, 145-2000 mg). Eighty-three percent of the patients improved. Of these 39% (16 patients) had a complete clinical remission and 17% (7 patients) showed marked improvement, 27% (11 patients) showed moderate improvement and 17% (7 patients) were unchanged. Patients responding to methotrexate therapy maintained the improvement as long as the therapy continued, unless severe infections occurred. Seven patients withdrew during the study including two, who died of myocardial infarction. Methotrexate was withdrawn because of adverse drug reactions in two patients, fear of toxicity in two and for administrative reasons in one patient. Adverse reactions developed in 25 patients (61%). In all but two cases these reactions were mild and reversible. Pancytopenia, a major side effect, was present in two patients: in one patient in association with
pneumonia
and in the other patient associated with an acute
infectious enteritis
(after three years treatment in the first and six years in the second patient); both recovered when methotrexate was discontinued. Age, sex, duration of treatment did not remarkably influence the outcome of therapy or the occurrence of adverse reactions.

A survey of the mortality and morbidity affecting calves during the first 3 months of life was carried out. Results are reported from 131 herds with altogether 5,050 calvings. These herds kept individual calf cards for all calves born. The incidences of abortions and stillborn calves were 0.6% and 3.6%, respectively. During the period 0-90 days the mortality and morbidity were 2.6% and 11.0%, respectively. The frequencies of enteritis and
pneumonia
in calves were 7.2% and 0.8%. Mortality and morbidity were influenced by breed, season, age of the dam and time of first colostrum. The frequencies of abortions, stillborn calves, mortality and morbidity varied considerably between herds. Herd factors influencing mortality and morbidity during different periods of time were: herd size, yield, zero-grazing, whether the calf was allowed to feed by suckling, the design of the calf pens, and previous incidence of
infectious enteritis
in the herd. On average, both mortality and morbidity in calves were low, though in certain herds, temporarily high frequencies were registered.

Azithromycin (AZM) in fine granules was studied for its pharmacokinetics and clinical efficacies in eight child patients with ages between 1 month and 8 years. Informed consent was received from all of their parents. AZM was administered to the patients once a day at a dose of 10 mg/kg for 3 days. The clinical efficacies of AZM in 8 patients with microbial infections (
pneumonia
in one, Mycoplasma pneumonia in two, acute tonsillitis in one, pertussis in one, Campylobacter enteritis in one,
infectious enteritis
in one, Salmonella enteritis in one) were evaluated as "excellent" in five cases, "good" in two and "not evaluable" in one. As for the microbial efficacy, isolated strains were eradicated in 2 out of 3 patients. No adverse reaction was found except for one case with abnormal laboratory change, that is mildly increased GPT value. Plasma samples were collected from 3 cases. The elimination half-life of AZM was 45.8 hours. AUC0-infinity was 12.6 micrograms.hr/ml. Urine sample was collected from one. AZM concentration in urine was 35.0 micrograms/ml during a period between 48 and 72 hours after the start of treatment.
