We present the case of a 30-year-old woman who was referred to our institution with an erroneous diagnosis of poorly differentiated carcinoma of the ovary. The patient presented
pelvic pain
for one year prior to surgery. A second laparotomy revealed a bilateral pure ovarian ependymoma that infiltrated the uterus and presented implants on the omentum. Differential diagnosis included mainly endometrioid and small cell carcinoma of the ovary. Presence of typical ependymal rosettes and positivity to
GFAP
confirmed the diagnosis of ependymoma. Other teratomatous elements were not observed. Ovarian ependymomas are rare tumors; only eight cases, to our knowledge, have been reported in the literature. They have a favorable prognosis; patients with advanced stage disease are reported alive and well after treatment with surgery and chemotherapy.

Ovarian ependymomas are extremely rare tumors of the ovary. We present a case of a 67-year-old lady presented to us with swelling in the right side of neck for 2 months followed by
pelvic pain
, lower abdominal distention, and weight loss for 1 month. Her coagulation profile, blood chemistry, lipid profile, and tumor markers were within normal limits. Neck Doppler ultrasonography revealed thrombus in the right internal jugular vein and CT scan of the abdomen showed bilateral ovarian masses. Patient was subjected to debulking surgery for suspected ovarian cancer and microscopy revealed a highly cellular tumor composed of small cells with hyperchromatic, round-to-oval nuclei with scanty cytoplasm, and perivascular pseudorosettes. Diagnosis was confirmed by immunophenotype showing strong positivity to
glial fibrillary acidic protein
, estrogen receptors, and progesterone receptors. Patient was successfully managed with anticoagulants, adjuvant chemotherapy with BEP regimen, and letrozole. After ruling out other common conditions for thrombosis in this age group, this seems to be a paraneoplastic presentation of ovarian malignancy that preceded the diagnosis of ependymoma by 2 months. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case report in the world literature as "paraneoplastic internal jugular vein thrombosis leading to diagnosis of bilateral ovarian ependymoma."

. Using a minimally invasive mouse model of endometriosis, we investigated associations between peripheral endometriosis-like lesions and adaptations in central glial reactivity. Spinal cords (T13-S1) from female C57BL/6 mice with endometriosis-like lesions (ENDO) were imaged via fluorescent immunohistochemistry for the expression of
glial fibrillary acidic protein

GFAP
; astrocytes) and CD11b (microglia) in the dorsal horn (n = 5). Heightened variability ( P = .02) as well as an overall increase ( P = .04) in the mean area of
GFAP
immunoreactivity was found in ENDO versus saline-injected control animals. Interestingly, spinal levels showing the greatest alterations in
GFAP
immunoreactivity appeared to correlate with the spatial location of lesions within the abdominopelvic cavity. A subtle but significant increase in the mean area of CD11b immunostaining was also observed in ENDO mice compared to controls ( P = .02). This is the first study to describe adaptations in nonneuronal, immune-like cells of the central nervous system attributed to the presence of endometriosis-like lesions.

Chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a multisymptom syndrome with unknown etiology. The experimental autoimmune prostatitis (EAP) mouse model of chronic
pelvic pain
syndrome is associated with immune cell infiltration into the prostate, expression of C-C chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), and neuroinflammation in the spinal cord. Here, we studied CCL2 expression in tissues along the nociceptive pathway and its association with neuroimmune cells during pain development. Examination of prostate tissues at days 14 and 28 after EAP induction revealed CCL2 expression was increased in epithelial cells and was associated with increased numbers of macrophages lying in close apposition to PGP9.5-positive afferent neuronal fibers. C-C Chemokine ligand 2 immunoreactivity was elevated to a similar degree in the dorsal root ganglia at day 14 and day 28. D14 of EAP was associated with elevated IBA1 cells in the dorsal root ganglia that were not evident at D28. Adoptive transfer of green fluorescent protein+ leukocytes into EAP mice demonstrated monocytes are capable of infiltrating the spinal cord from peripheral blood with what seemed to be a proinflammatory phenotype.
