Postoperative pain
after total hip arthroplasty can have a wide range of underlying causes. Iliopsoas
tendonitis
secondary to the impingement of this tendon is a relatively rare cause of pain after arthroplasty. This condition is characterized by pain on active flexion and an absence of signs or symptoms of loosening or infection. In this report, we describe the case of a patient who had signs and symptoms of iliopsoas
tendonitis
secondary to the protrusion of an acetabular fixation screw through the ilium after primary total hip arthroplasty. Nonoperative treatment was ineffective, and the patient ultimately underwent surgical removal of the screw. The severity of the patient's symptoms decreased significantly after the operation.

Postoperative pain
, which has been attributed to poor outcomes after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), remains problematic for many patients. Although the source of TKA pain can often be delineated, establishing a precise diagnosis can be challenging. It is often classified as intra-articular or extra-articular pain, depending on etiology. After intra-articular causes, such as instability, aseptic loosening, infection, or osteolysis, have been ruled out, extra-articular sources of pain should be considered. Physical examination of the other joints may reveal sources of localized knee pain, including diseases of the spine, hip, foot, and ankle. Additional extra-articular pathologies that have potential to instigate pain after TKA include vascular pathologies,
tendinitis
, bursitis, and iliotibial band friction syndrome. Patients with medical comorbidities, such as metabolic bone disease and psychological illness, may also experience prolonged postoperative pain. By better understanding the diagnosis and treatment options for extra-articular causes of pain after TKA, orthopaedic surgeons may better treat patients with this potentially debilitating complication.

The main complications of open tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis are wound healing disorders and nonunion. Our hypothesis was that arthroscopy and interlocking intramedullary nailing decrease these complications. We retrospectively reviewed six patients (mean age: 58 years; mean preoperative Kitaoka score: 51/100) having undergone arthroscopic tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis with retrograde intramedullary nailing between January and November 2011 for equinus deformity of the hindfoot and subtalar instability of neurological origin.
Postoperative pain
disappeared completely in four cases, one patient presented some pain associated with projection of the proximal locking screw head under the skin and the remaining patient presented fibular
tendinitis
that resolved after infiltration of anti-inflammatory drugs. The mean postoperative Kitaoka score was 64/100. None of the patients presented any wound healing complications or nonunion. The observed incidence of wound complications and bone consolidation disorders after tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis was lower than the ones reported for open tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis. Level of clinical evidence IV: retrospective case series.
