Isolated surgical approaches to tumor treatment have largely reached a point beyond which prospects appear to be unpromising. The search for more promising therapeutic approaches, therefore, has become a compelling challenge. Surgico-adjuvant tumour chemotherapy has been more thoroughly studied than anything else in that direction. The underlying theoretical concept seems to be persuasive, though clinical results have so far stayed below expectations. Secured prolongation of life, following this therapy, has so far proved to be probable only for cases of
osteosarcoma
, mammary carcinoma with high risk of recurrence, testicular tumours, and neurogenic tumours. Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy seems to work well in cases of
ENT
tumours. Model studies into Lewis-Lung carcinoma have shown that therapeutic effects cannot be guaranteed unless a sensitised tumour is treated with an effective preparation. This is likely to add to the long-range importance of the individual aspects relating to surgico-adjuvant tumour chemotherapy. Methods have been and continue to be developed for that purpose. Yet, all of them need to be methodologically improved. At present, waiting for such improvement, surgico-adjuvant tumour chemotherapy should be used only within the framework of controlled clinical studies.

Between the years 19890-1998 in I
ENT
Department of Silesian Medical Academy were treated surgically 15 patients suffering from soft tissue sarcomas of head and neck region. Patomorphological examination showed: fibrosarcoma (4 cases), haemangioendothelioma malignum (2 cases), rhabdomyosarcoma (2 cases), schwannoma malignum (2 cases), fibrohistiocytoma malignum (2 cases), tumor mixtus mesenchymalis (1 case), haemangiopericytoma malignum (1 case), extrasceletal
osteosarcoma
(1 case). Sarcomas were localised in paranasal sinuses (7 cases), orbita (5 cases), parapharyngeal space (1 case), parotid gland (1 case) and bucca (1 case). All those patients were treated surgically and most of them were irradiated postoperatively. The authors have presented the diagnostic and methods of treatment of soft tissue sarcomas. According to our experience and data of the literature the method of choice in treatment soft tissue sarcomas should consist of surgery and radiation therapy postoperatively.

Sinonasal adenocarcinomas are rare tumours, with three subtypes. They are mostly low-grade tumours, although they can also be aggressive. In this case report, we describe a 34-year-old patient with sinonasal adenocarcinomas. Within his nasal cavity was found an irregular mass. Given the intratumoral calcification and bone, the mass was thought to be a bone-producing tumour, such as an
osteosarcoma
. The pathological diagnosis was a sinonasal adenocarcinoma with extensive metaplastic bone. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a sinonasal adenocarcinoma with metaplastic ossification.
