Canine extraskeletal osteosarcomas are extremely rare tumors. Over a period of 25 years at the Animal Medical Center, approximately 1,000 cases of skeletal osteosarcomas have been diagnosed. During the same period 11 cases of extraskeletal osteosarcomas and three extraskeletal chondrosarcomas were diagnosed. Tumors of the mammary gland were excluded.
Extraskeletal osteosarcomas
were found in the adrenal gland, eye, gastric ligament, ileum, kidney, liver, spleen, testicle, and vagina. The chondrosarcomas were found in the mitral valves, lungs, and omentum. The mean age of the dogs with extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
was 11 years, and the mean age of the dogs with extraskeletal chondrosarcoma was 14 years. The The sizes of the tumors ranged from 3 cubic centimeters to 8,315 cubic centimeters. Osteoblastic osteosarcomas were the most common histologic type (7/11, 63.6%); there was a single case of each of the following: fibroblastic, fibrous histiocytic, chondroblastic, and mixed osteo-chondroblastic osteosarcoma. Two of the dogs with chondrosarcomas had mesenchymal chondrosarcomas involving the lungs and omentum. The remaining dog had a regular chondrosarcoma involving the mitral valve. Distant metastases were present in seven of 11 dogs with extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
and in none of the dogs with chondrosarcoma. In contrast to human beings, in which most extraskeletal osteosarcomas occur in the soft tissues and the extremities, most canine extraskeletal osteosarcomas develop in the visceral organs.

Extraskeletal osteosarcomas
are infrequent, and those that arise within parenchymal organs are very rare indeed. This case of a 71-year-old man with a primary
osteosarcoma
of the liver is the second reported in man. Pathologic findings, including ultrastructural features, at surgery and autopsy are presented. The differential diagnosis is discussed in detail.

We report a case of an 84-year-old man with extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
of the penis arising within heterotopic bone.
Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
of the penis is an exceedingly rare entity; only two other well-documented cases have been reported in the English-language literature.

Extraskeletal osteosarcomas
are rare tumors, and the telangiectatic variety is the least common histological variety in this group. This report describes the clinical and MR imaging findings in two cases arising in the pretibial soft tissues. Both tumors demonstrated marked inhomogeneity with T2-weighted spin echo and STIR sequences. One of the tumors revealed numerous fluid levels within the lesion. A review of the MRI features of these tumors is provided.
Osteosarcoma
with telangiectatic features should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a soft tissue mass with fluid-fluid levels in patients 40 years of age or older.

Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
is a rare sarcoma that accounts for about 1% of malignant soft tissue tumours. We report an very unusual case of a small-size extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
arising in the superficial subcutaneous region of the buttock. The patient was a 55 year-old female. She incidentally noticed a small nodule in the right trochanteric region. It was removed under local anesthesia at a private clinic. An additional wide excision was performed at our hospital. There was an 8 mm? 10 mm mass in the subcutaneous tissue. No invasion of the underlying fascia was observed. Microscopic examination of the removed tumour showed bizarre-looking spindle and giant cells with lace-like osteoid. The tumour was diagnosed as extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
. Chemotherapy with Rosen T-20 was administered to the patient. The patient has survived without recurrence or metastasis for 4 years since the primary surgery. Its superficial location, very small size, wide excision, and chemotherapy were thought to contribute to her long survival.

Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
is a rare malignancy that has not been previously reported to arise from the diaphragm. We describe the case of a 47-year-old woman who had a large thoracic mass found at operation to be an extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
arising from the diaphragm. The tumor was completely resected en bloc with a margin of surrounding diaphragm, which necessitated a diaphragmatic reconstruction. The literature concerning this rare tumor is reviewed.

Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
is a rare malignant soft tissue tumor whose cytologic findings are infrequently reported. We describe scrape and fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) cytology findings of an extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
in the right shoulder of a 24-yr-old man. Initial computed tomography revealed multiple ossification foci within the lesion. After excision of the primary tumor, the tumor recurred 13 months later. Scrape smears of both the primary tumor and FNAB smears of the recurrent tumor revealed moderate cellularity, cell clusters, and individual cells, closely associated with dense, homogeneous, acellular matrix material. The cells had elongated, oval, or partially bizarre-shaped nuclei with a coarse chromatin pattern and prominent nucleoli. The scrape smears contained large fragments of matrix material consistent with osteoid.

Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
is a rare malignant soft tissue tumor. Authors present the history of a 61-year-old woman who had bone like tissue in her gallbladder at cholecystectomy. Histology proved, it was extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
of the gallbladder. Such disease has not been previously reported in the literature. She developed metastatic disease five months after the operation: multiplex cystic-calcified metastases appeared in the abdominal wall and in the peritoneal cavity. We present pathology findings, including ultrastructural features.

Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
is a rare malignancy, which accounts for 1-2% of all soft tissue sarcomas; occurrence of these tumors in the head and neck is extremely rare. We present a case of extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
arising in the subcutaneous tissue of the jaw angle, the central portion of which displayed calcification. Imaging findings were interesting in terms of a high grade malignancy in that the tumor was small and well circumscribed; its appearance mimicked a calcified lymph node. The differential diagnosis of this lesion as well as the imaging and pathological features of extraskeletal
osteosarcoma
are discussed.

Extraskeletal osteosarcoma
is a rare soft tissue tumor. We report an exceptional case located in the forearm. A 62-year-old woman consulted for a tumor of the right forearm which she had noticed for six months. Physical examination revealed a 10 x 12 cm tumor with an ulcerated center. MRI demonstrated a heterogeneous mass exhibiting no connection with the bone or subjacent periosteum. Wide surgical resection was performed. The pathology study of the operative specimen confirmed the diagnosis of soft tissue
osteosarcoma
. The patient was given postoperative chemotherapy and was free of local recurrence or metastasis eighteen months after surgery. We discuss the present case and review data reported in the literature.
