Malignant neoplasms known to develop following external beam radiation include squamous cell carcinoma, osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, mixed mullerian tumors, malignant schwannoma, myelogenous leukemia and angiosarcoma. Latency periods of many years characterize the onset of these tumors following the exposure. Cutaneous angiosarcoma following radiotherapy for breast carcinoma has been rarely documented, occurring up to 13 years postirradiation. Two cases of this entity are reported occurring 37 months postradiotherapy at the site of mastectomy performed for mammary duct carcinoma.

Malignant neoplasms associated with Paget's disease of the bone are most commonly metastatic and rarely primary malignant transformations. Sarcomatous transformations, such as osteogenic sarcoma, predominant in Paget's disease. The authors discuss the synchronous and synostotic occurrence of a primary lymphoma of bone in association with Paget's disease. The simultaneous occurrence of isolated primary lymphoma of bone and its phenotype in association with Paget's disease in the femur, which had not been rigorously documented in the previous literature, is reported.

Studies on paediatric head and neck cancer are limited in the medical literature. Most studies have been restricted to specific histological types such as rhabdomyosarcoma, osteogenic sarcoma or Burkitt's lymphoma. This study describes the relative frequency of cancers seen in the head and neck region of children below 16 years of age at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. A total of 281 cases of paediatric head and neck tumours were diagnosed within the study period, out of which 84 cases were malignant. Fifty-four of these cases were males while 30 were females, giving a male to female ratio of 1.8:1. The age range for these cases was 3 days to 15 years with a mean age of 9.03 +/- 4.63 years. The most frequently diagnosed tumours were haematopoietic malignancies, accounting for 47.6% of cases, followed by sarcomas (27.4%) and carcinomas (21.4%). Burkitt's lymphoma constituted 28.6%, followed by rhabdomyosarcoma accounting for 17.9% of cases. Malignant neoplasms of the head and neck region are rare in the paediatric age group. The pattern of these neoplasms also differs from that in the adult population. However, malignant head and neck neoplasms in the paediatric age group also showed the male preponderance characteristic of head and neck malignancies in the adult population.

Malignant neoplasms of the larynx are divided into epithelial and non-epithelial. Non-epithelial neoplasms include, among others, mesenchymal chondrosarcomas and osteosarcomas. Few cases of laryngeal osteosarcomas described in the literature were usually treated by surgery without the need to use adjuvant radio- or chemotherapy. Few authors propose the initial application of radiotherapy or high-dose chemotherapy. Our study presents a very rare case of a woman treated due to laryngeal osteosarcoma. We have also presented diagnostic difficulties preceding a decision to perform radical surgery. The patient had been eligible for radical surgical treatment, even though there were no features of malignancy in a histopathological examination of the biopsy material. Complete laryngectomy was carried out without the surgery of the cervical lymphatic system. Laryngeal osteosarcoma was diagnosed based on the postoperative histopathological examination using vimentin and Ki67. The patient remains under the care of the Otolaryngology and Laryngological Oncology Department and Oncology Centre in Bydgoszcz. There were no reports on local recurrence or distant metastases during regular check-ups.
