The authors have gained minimum blood losses when suturing with provisional catgut ligature through the urinary bladder bottom between interureteral fold and internal urethral orifice yet before dessection of
adenoma
surgical capsule and
tumor
enucleation. Depending on the functional state of the upper urinary tract, the bladder tonus and
adenoma
size, the method of postoperative drainage of the urinary bladder is selected: cystostomy, microirrigation, active suction, etc.

Dermal-type cylindromas of parotid glands in a patient with turban tumor, and various adnexal tumors, represent a rare diathesis, apparently not reported previously. A Caucasian man, born in 1916, had a scalpectomy for turban tumor in 1957. In 1957, 1960, and 1974, dermal type cylindromas were excised from portions of both parotid glands, developing from intercalated and striated ducts; they were considered benign, based on long term followup. Adrexal tumors included multiple dermal cylindromas, trichoepitheliomas, eccrine spiradenomas, and Bowen's disease, and occurred on almost all skin surfaces. In November, 1976, a portion of a right parotidectomy included a 3.5 X 3-cm malignant tumor having the characteristics of an invasive poorly differentiated spindle cell epidermoid carcinoma, which showed no evidence of originating from a malignant basal cell
tumor
. Several encapsulated and developing benign basal cell tumors were included in the specimen. Dermal-type cyclindromas of the parotid gland are considered to be a variant of basal cell ademona, or monomorphic
adenoma
, basal cell type, since they consist of similar cell components, although of somewhat different arrangement and with prominent focal deposition of hyaline. Dermal-type cylindromas should be excised conservatively as they appear. They must be differentiated from adenoid cystic carcinoma, which is an infiltrating
neoplasm
and requires a radical surgical approach.

A double-blind pilot study of 130 female patients was carried out to determine the feasibility and significance of the EM test in the early diagnosis of carcinoma of the female genital organs and breast. Early stages of cervical carcinoma (carcinoma in situ) as well as fibroid
adenoma
, mastopathy and breast tumors were tested and compared with the results of their manifest forms. Positive results were recorded in 87.5% of the cases of middle-grade to severe epithelial dysplasia (Papanicolaou III and IV) (n = 10) and in 90% of the cases of carcinoma in situ (n = 16). A positive result in 90% of the cases of carcinoma in situ (n = 16). A positive result in 90% of the cases of genital carcinoma was also recorded. In the case of fibroid
adenoma
(n = 10) and breast
tumor
(Prechtel I and II) (n = 16), negative results were recorded in 80.8%, whereas in the manifest forms of carcinoma of the breast a positive result of over 95% was shown. As a result of this pilot study, it can be seen that immunological in vitro screening has clinical significance in the early diagnosis of tumors as well as for confirmation of their manifest forms.

A papillary
adenoma
of the gall bladder was demonstrated by gray scale echography. The pathology of the
tumor
was described and the ultrasonic characteristics which distinguish it from a calculus were discussed.

Dehydroisoandrosterone (DHA) and cortisol were measured by radioimmunoassay and protein binding techniques respectively in plasma from blood taken at 20-min intervals over 24-h periods in 3 normal men, 2 women with Stein-Leventhal syndrome and a man with a benign adrenocortical
adenoma
. In all subjects but the latter, DHA and cortisol were episodic and synchronous throughout the entire day; in this patient, continuous secretion of cortisol by the
tumor
apparently abolished stimulation of the contralateral adrenal, and DHA production was negligible. Dehydroisoandrosterone sulfate analysis in plasma displayed a pattern which, probably because of its origin both by secretion and sulfation and its long half-life showed less synchronicity with DHA and cortisol and less fluctuation than did the free hormones.

A solid
adenoma
of the pigmented ciliary epithelium was removed by 9.0 X 6.0 mm "block-excision" (postoperative visual acuity 1.0). The black lesion with a velvety surface consists of very large cells packed with melanin granules of abnormal and variable density, structure and size. Striking intracellular vacuoles contain acid mucopolysaccharides, particularly sialomucins. The literature on tumors of the pigmented ciliary epithelium is reviewed. Criteria for the separation of adenomas for adeno- "carcinomas" (8 cases, all without metastases) from reactive hyperplasia (6 cases) are proposed. The histologic, histochemical and electronmicroscopic findings of our
tumor
show striking similarities to those of an
adenoma
of the retinal pigment epithelium.

Report on a bronchial
adenoma
in the right lobus inferior pulmonalis (autopsy: histological bronchial
adenoma
from carcinoid type) of uncommon size and with growth till now not described. The
tumor
was diagnosed clinically and histologically 4 years before death of the patient, but was not operated. The
tumor
has continuously infiltrated the left atrium cordis via a vena pulmonalis. This case is stressing the decisive importance of the early diagnosis of bronchial
adenoma
.

The observations are a ultrastructural analysis of pleomorphic adenomas with one's own 14 cases. Pleomorphic adenoma is chief representative of the secretory tumour complex of salivary glands. Ultrastructure of three dominate secretory
tumor
cells and three nonsecretory celltypes are descripted. Ultramicroscopical differentiation of stroma elements an their transformations, henceforth regressive of tumour cells in the pleomorphic
adenoma
are discussed. The author give instructions for electromicroscopic diagnostic of this adenomas. Lastly there is tried to determine the "dignity" of pleomorphic adenomas by their ultrastructure for purpose of a adequate therapy.

Enzyme histochemical and ultrastructural studies of a "dexamethasone-suppressed" virilizing adrenocortical
adenoma
and the attached cortex revealed that
tumor
cells showed little activities of some lysosomal enzymes and scarcity of lipofuscins and dense bodies of lysosomal type, forming a marked contrast to the cells of zona reticularis and the virilizing adenomas previously reported. The other findings of
tumor
cells, such as a pattern of activities of dehydrogenases including 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and the morphology of mitochondria, were those of reticularis cells. The findings showed that scantiness of lipofuscins did not rule out the possibility of
adenoma
producing adrenal androgen, dehydroepiandrosterone. Most of the
tumor
cells as well as reticularis cells were positive for alkaline phosphatase, the activity of which was interpreted as the effect of ACTH stimulation.

Sialic acid content in breast or
tumor
tissue and serum of mouse strains that are either susceptible or resistant to breast cancer was measured at various age periods. Sialic acid content was also studied in normal lung tissue and in lung
adenoma
and hepatoma. Sialic acid levels during nonmalignant growth of a tissue were measured in breast tissue during pregnancy and lactation, and in regenerating liver, as well as in newborn and postnatal liver. The sialic acid content, when expressed per mg of protein, increased in mammary tumor, lung
adenoma
, and hepatoma. It also increased in nonmalignant growth of breast tissue during pregnancy and lactation and of regenerating liver and postnatal liver. Increase in sialic acid per mg DNA was observed only in lung tumors, regenerating liver, and postnatal liver. It appears that the changes in sialic acid level are independent of the normal or malignant growth of a tissue and that these changes might be the function of the parameter used to express the sialic acid values, i.e., either the DNA content or protein content of a given tissue.
