Myxoid liposarcoma can frequently metastasize to extrapulmonary sites. We present two cases of myxoid liposarcoma metastatic to the epidural space. Both patients complained of back pain, but plain radiography revealed no abnormality. MR imaging clearly demonstrated metastatic tumors in the epidural space, but no involvement of vertebra. When patients with myxoid liposarcoma complain of back pain, metastasis in the epidural space should be considered even in patients without bone involvement.

Myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord (MLSC) is a rare variance of spermatic sarcomas, with only 14 previous cases having been reported. Typically it presents during the seventh decade of life as a painless scrotal or inguinal mass. Although local recurrences are not uncommon, prognosis following complete tumour removal is good because metastases are rare. We describe one new case of a 24-year-old male with incidental MLSC found during inguinal hernia repair, and also review the existing literature.

Myxoid liposarcoma, unlike other types of liposarcoma, has an unusual propensity to metastasize to extrapulmonary sites including the abdominal cavity. Metastatic myxoid liposarcoma is an important condition because it may indicate distant micrometastatic disease. We report the case of a 47-year-old woman with a metastatic myxoid liposarcoma in the mesentery. Surgical excision with a tumor-free margin was achieved, but cardiac and liver metastases developed. We review the available literature and discuss what is still debated about this disease.

We present the second reported case of a myxoid liposarcoma metastatic to the thyroid gland in a 51-year-old gentleman with previous liposarcoma of the right thigh. Myxoid liposarcoma has a relatively good prognosis but tends to recur locally. Metastases affecting the thyroid gland are a rare entity and most commonly arise from the kidney, lung or breast. Clinical presentation, patterns of recurrence and prognosis of myxoid liposarcoma and metastases to the thyroid gland are discussed.

Myxoid liposarcoma often metastasizes to extrapulmonar sites; however, osseous metastases are rare. We report the case of a 52-year-old male with a single histologically proven bone metastasis of the thoracic wall from a primary myxoid liposarcoma with a round cell component of the right thigh.

Myxoid liposarcoma (ML) has a high predilection for extrapulmonary sites of metastases, including intra-abdominal metastases, but pancreatic involvement is extremely rare. Here, we report the case of a 66-year-old male patient, who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy for isolated pancreatic metastasis of ML of the left lower extremity that had been excised 6 years before. Completion pancreatectomy was necessitated afterwards for a delayed haemorrage associated with pancreatic fistula. Currently the patient is alive with no evidence of disease. Highly selected patients with isolated pancreatic metastasis of soft tissue sarcoma may benefit from a curative surgical resection.

Purpose. To document a case of myxoid liposarcoma in which PET scan was less sensitive than MRI in detecting spinal metastasis. Materials and Methods. The case of a 65-year-old female with a history of myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) of the thigh resected 5 years previously and now presenting with low back pain is presented. Her medical oncologist ordered an FDG-PET scan to evaluate distant recurrence. Subsequently, an MRI of her spine was obtained by her surgeon. Results. The FDG-PET scan was obtained 1 week prior to the MRI, and it did not show increased glucose uptake in the spine. Her MRI did show increased signal intensity in her lumbar spine. CT needle biopsy confirmed the lesion to be metastatic MLS. Conclusion. FDG-PET scans are utilized to detect distant recurrence of cancerous lesions. Myxoid liposarcoma has a unique propensity to metastasize to the spine. Previous reports have documented the unreliability of bone scintigraphy to diagnose these metastases. Our report demonstrates that FDG-PET may also lack the sensitivity needed to detect these lesions. We advocate total spine MRI when screening for metastases in this population when they present with back pain.

Myxoid liposarcoma usually develops in the retroperitoneum or deep soft tissues of extremities. Synchronous cardiac and abdominal metastases are extremely rare. We describe the case of a 63-year-old man, with a history of a thigh liposarcoma, treated by resection, chemotherapy and postoperative radiotherapy 13 years ago. Patient now presented with an intracardial, a pericardial and an abdominal mass, identified as metastatic myxoid liposarcomas. He eventually underwent successful emergency sternotomy and subsequent laparotomy for tumor resection.

Myxoid liposarcoma occurs predominantly in the deep soft tissues of the extremities, and tends to metastasize to a wide range of soft tissue or bone locations. We report a case of myxoid liposarcoma arising in the ankle of a 19-year-old man. A diagnosis of myxoid liposarcoma was made by open biopsy, and a wide resection requiring plastic surgical reconstruction was performed. Cytogenetic analysis of the resected tumor exhibited a reciprocal translocation t(12;16)(q13;p11) as the sole anomaly, which is found in more than 90% of myxoid liposarcoma cases. The patient had no evidence of local recurrence or metastasis within 7 years of follow-up. Although myxoid liposarcoma is rare in the ankle, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a painless soft tissue mass in this region.

Myxoid liposarcoma is a soft tissue tumor in adults with rare cardiac involvement. We report a 50-year-old female with high grade round cell liposarcoma of the left knee with metastases to the right heart chambers. The tumor was located in the right atrium with extension to right ventricle. The Patient underwent radiotherapy after surgical resection and 12-month follow-up revealed no recurrent cardiac disease.
