A prospective double-blind study was performed to compare metoclopramide (
Primperan
) with morphatropin in the treatment of ureteral colic. Twenty-one patients (10 in the morphatropin group and 11 in the metoclopramide group) entered the study and diagnosis was confirmed radiologically. Using the Mann-Whitney rank sum test, no significant difference was found in the pain-relieving effect 10, 20, or 30 min after treatment with either 1 ml morphatropin s.c. or 20 mg metoclopramide i.v. Two patients in the morphatropin group developed
nausea
and giddiness, respectively, and 1 patient from this group was omitted due to the development of urticaria. No side effects occurred in the metoclopramide group. Thus metoclopramide seems to be an alternative to the traditional treatment of ureteral colic with morphia.

cis-Platinum is a chemotherapeutic agent with benefits often limited by the severe gastrointestinal reactions it produces in nearly all patients. Persistent anorexia,
nausea
, and vomiting may continue for days after therapy and are poorly controlled by conventional antiemetics. Patients at times refuse continuation of cis-platinum chemotherapy because of these severe gastrointestinal side effects. Intravenous methylprednisolone (Solu-medrol) as well as intravenous metoclopramide (
Reglan
) have been shown effective in the treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. This randomized, double-blind study is a comparison of the efficacy of Solu-medrol vs
Reglan
, as well as, the combination of Solu-medrol and
Reglan
in the prevention of cis-platinum-induced nausea and vomiting. In this study patients receiving
Reglan
had better protection from vomiting than patients receiving Solu-medrol (P = 0.0564). Patients receiving the combination of
Reglan
and Solu-medrol had better protection from vomiting than patients receiving
Reglan
alone (P = 0.0332), or patients receiving Solu-medrol alone (P = 0.0010). Finally, older patients experienced less vomiting than younger patients, regardless of the anti-emetic drugs used (P = 0.0730).

The
Primperan
which has strong antiemetic properties, is suggested to be utilised in premedication before gastroscopy in patients over 75 years old, on account of its lower respiratory depression activity than diazepam, currently used in such occasion. Thirty minutes before starting endoscopy, 20 mg of
Primperan
(2 ampules) are administered intravenously to the patients. In 15 patients, the results were excellent characterized by a lack of
nausea
and anxiety, and a very good tolerance.

This study was conducted to compare the efficacy of intravenous diphenhydramine with dihydroergotamine mesylate (DHE-45; Novartis International AG, Switzerland) in the treatment of severe, refractory, migraine headache. A retrospective review was conducted to include eighty randomly chosen patients who were admitted to the Michigan Head Pain & Neurological Institute's inpatient program at Chelsea Community Hospital. Patients had received nine doses of diphenhydramine or nine doses of DHE-45 during a 3-day period. Patients receiving DHE-45 also received metoclopramide (
Reglan
; AH Robins Company, Inc., Richmond, VA) as prophylaxis for
nausea
. Demographics, headache diagnosis, psychiatric discharge diagnoses, abortive medications, and adverse events were recorded and assessed.
