Snakebite victims have been described previously in orthopedic literature in regard to complications such as
compartment syndrome
and carpal tunnel syndrome. We introduce a previously unreported complication of stenosing flexor tenosynovitis in a patient bitten by a rattlesnake. After being bitten in her right forearm, the patient experienced mild systemic symptoms of fever and
nausea
and was assessed at an outside hospital, where it was determined that she did not suffer from envenomation and therefore did not require antivenin therapy. She presented to our institution 1 week later with signs and symptoms of acute, new-onset right thumb flexor tenosynovitis, with pain and tenderness at the level of the A1 pulley of the thumb, with intermittent triggering. She also presented the following week with ipsilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. The patient reported no such symptoms prior to the snakebite. Given the recent development of these conditions after her snakebite, in addition to her history of endocrine disorders, we believe that our patient suffered from envenomation that led to these complications. Nonoperative measures including splinting and steroid injections were taken, with mixed results, and surgical intervention was necessary. While the proper management of snakebites is controversial, especially in regard to the administration of antivenin, we believe our patient would have benefitted from immediate evaluation and consideration for antivenin.

Duodenal stenosis due to periduodenal hematoma is a rare condition. Although clinical presentations should vary among causes, symptoms of duodenal stenosis due to periduodenal hematoma commonly include abdominal pain,
nausea
, or vomiting. We describe three cases of duodenal stenosis due to periduodenal hematoma with similar clinical courses. All patients had mass-like hardness in the upper abdomen on physical examination and showed prolonged symptoms of duodenal stenosis given the usual time of hematoma resolution. On the basis of anatomic and embryologic background, hemorrhage presumably occurs in the duodenal compartment, which includes the distal part of the duodenum and its potential embryonic mesentery. Hematoma itself and the increased intracompartmental pressure result in distinctive clinical features, which suggest a concept of duodenal
compartment syndrome
.

Gastrointestinal manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are common, occurring in about 50% of cases. They are usually mild, in the form of mouth ulcers,
nausea
, heartburn and mild abdominal pain, but they can be severe in cases of gastrointestinal vasculitis. In this report we describe an unusual combination of SLE complications, namely superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMAS) and reversible acute obstructive renal failure. This was attributed to raised intra-abdominal pressure and hence intra-abdominal
compartment syndrome
(IACS) following weight loss secondary to an acute presentation of SLE with gastrointestinal vasculitis.

Abdominoplasty is among the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures in plastic surgery. Despite high complication rate, abdominal contouring procedures are expected to rise in popularity with the advent of bariatric surgery. Patients with a history of gastric bypass surgery have an elevated incidence of small bowel obstruction from internal herniation, which is associated with non-specific upper abdominal pain,
nausea
, and a decrease in appetite. Internal hernias, when subjected to elevated intra-abdominal pressures, have a high-risk of developing ischemic bowel. We present a case report of patient with previous laparoscopic Roux-en-y gastric bypass who developed acute ischemic bowel leading to abdominal
compartment syndrome
following abdominoplasty. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case in the literature. We herein emphasise on the subtle symptoms and signs that warrant further investigations in prospective patients for an abdominal contouring procedure with a prior history of gastric bypass surgery.

Giant abdominal cyst can lead to various non-specific symptoms such as abdominal bloating,
nausea
/vomiting, constipation due to its mass effect. In rarer circumstances, it can lead to bowel obstruction, hydronephrosis and even abdominal
compartment syndrome
. Hereby, we present a case of giant abdominal cyst in a young woman where its origin was a diagnostic dilemma despite exhausting all imaging techniques. A laparotomy was performed and the giant cyst was found to be originating from the left ovary. The final histopathology confirmed it as an ovarian benign serous cystadenoma. The patient made a fully recovery without any complications.
