We describe a boy, 3 years and 6 months old, who experienced a rolandic seizure accompanied by a cluster of atypical absence seizures, the EEGs for which corresponded to those of atypical benign partial epilepsy (ABPE). Of note, this patient suffered from
developmental delay
beginning in infancy and exhibited giant middle-latency somatosensory evoked potentials with action
myoclonus
. With the exceptions of ethosuximide, acetazolamide, and adrenocorticotropic hormone, which have been reported to be effective in ABPE, the atypical absence seizures were intractable despite extensive treatment with various anticonvulsants. The drugs that were effective led to a remarkable reduction in seizure frequency and EEG improvement, but the efficacy was temporary. The patient demonstrated moderate mental retardation without regression and could not walk with support or speak any meaningful words at the age of 3 years and 6 months. Based on thorough differential diagnosis, although further studies will be necessary, we propose that this boy may present a new phenotype of ABPE: ABPE with action

Severe myoclonic epilepsy in infancy (SMEI) is a rare disease, characterized by febrile and afebrile, generalized and unilateral, clonic or tonic-clonic seizures that occur in the first year of life in an otherwise apparently normal infant. They are later associated with
myoclonus
, atypical absences, and partial seizures.
Developmental delay
becomes apparent within the second year of life and is followed by definite cognitive impairment and personality disorders of variable intensity. In the borderline form, children do not present with myoclonic symptoms but have the same general picture. SMEI is a channelopathy and the genetic studies have shown a mutation in the SCN1A gene in 70 to 80% of the patients, including the borderline forms. At present, there are no well-established correlations between genotype and phenotype. The electroencephalograms, often normal at the onset, display both generalized and focal anomalies, without a specific electroencephalographic pattern. As a rule, neuroimaging is normal. All seizure types are resistant to antiepileptic drugs and status epilepticus is frequent. Some drugs have been shown to aggravate the seizures and must be avoided. Two recent drugs have been proved to partially control the convulsive seizures and the status epilepticus. Therefore, it is crucial to diagnose this epilepsy soon after its onset in order to prescribe the most appropriate treatment.

Monosomy 1p36 is the most common subtelomeric deletion syndrome seen in humans. Uniform features of the syndrome include early
developmental delay
and consequent intellectual disability, muscular hypotonia, and characteristic dysmorphic facial features. The gene-rich nature of the chromosomal band, inconsistent deletion sizes and overlapping clinical features have complicated relevant genotype-phenotype correlations. We describe four patients with isolated chromosome 1p36 deletions. All patients shared white matter abnormalities, allowing us to narrow the critical region for white matter involvement to the deletion size of up to 2.5 Mb from the telomere. We hypothesise that there might be a gene(s) responsible for myelin development in the 1p36 subtelomeric region. Other significant clinical findings were progressive spastic paraparesis, epileptic encephalopathy, various skeletal anomalies, Prader-Willi-like phenotype, neoplastic changes - a haemangioma and a benign skin tumour, and in one case, sleep

, a clinical entity not previously described in association with 1p36 monosomy. Combined with prior studies, our results suggest that the clinical features seen in monosomy 1p36 have more complex causes than a classical contiguous gene deletion syndrome.

Congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) are a group of rare metabolic diseases, characterized by impaired glycosylation. Multisystemic involvement is common and neurological impairment is notably severe and disabling, concerning the central and peripheral nervous system. Epilepsy is frequent, but detailed electroclinical description is rare. We describe, retrospectively, the electroclinical features in five children with CDG and epileptic spasms. Epileptic spasms were observed in patients with ALG1-, ALG6, ALG11-CDG and CDG-Ix, and occurred at an early age, before 6 months in all cases, except one who had spasms that started at 18 months. In this patient, spasms had an unusual aspect; they did not occur in clusters and were immediately preceded by a
myoclonus
. All but one child also presented rare myoclonias. On EEG, background activity was poorly organized with abundant posterior spike and fast rhythm activity, but without hypsarrhythmia. At the last evaluation (age range: 6-12 years), two patients still presented epileptic spasms and subcortical myoclonias, one showed rare generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and two were seizure-free. CDG disorders can be associated with epileptic spasms showing particular features, such as absence of hypsarrhythmia, posterior EEG anomalies, and an unusual combination of epileptic spasms with
myoclonus
. These features, associated with pre-existing

We examined two members of a family with motor

, dystonia and chorea) and endocrinological abnormalities (peripheric thyroid disease, and pituitary hormone deficiencies). Dystonia predominated at the father, and

at the daughter. The father had hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, while the daughter was treated with growth hormone deficiency. Both patients had empty sella on MRI. Candidate gene analyses were negative. Exome sequencing detected a pathogenic stop variation (NM_003317:c.338G>A, p.Trp113

Conclusions:
This case study has two highlights. (1) It draws attention to possible pituitary dysfunction in brain-lung-thyroid syndrome, and provide further evidences that this might be linked to loss of function of the
