Risk factors for
melanoma
, the deadliest form of skin cancer, include lifetime sun exposure and a history of sunburns. However, a minority of adolescents report consistent engagement in sun protective behaviors. The few sun protection interventions that have targeted adolescents have had little effect on behavior change, which suggests that a better understanding of the issue, especially from the adolescents' perspective, is needed. Although efforts to qualitatively examine adolescent sun protection have been carried out in a handful of countries, no studies to date have focused on U.S. adolescents. We conducted focus groups with 44 6th-8th grade students in Colorado to explore their sun protection knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. Results supported previous findings that adolescents do not engage in regular skin protection but have experienced the negative consequences of sun exposure (e.g., severe sun burns, and blistering). In addition, participants demonstrated limited and sometimes inaccurate knowledge about the long-term risks of sun exposure, as well as effective methods of sun protection. Barriers to engaging in sun protective behaviors included a desire to tan, inconvenience, and physical
discomfort
. Facilitators included peer and family encouragement, previous experience with sunburns and/or skin cancer, and knowledge of potential consequences. These findings provide valuable insights that can inform future intervention and research related to sun protection among U.S. adolescents.

Anorectal
melanoma
(ARM) is an uncommon aggressive malignancy that comprises 0.5% to 1.6% of all
melanoma
manifestations. Dedifferentiated
melanoma
is very rare with loss of all melanocytic differentiation markers and is usually seen in metastatic melanoma of cutaneous origin. In this article, we report the first case of primary dedifferentiated amelanotic ARM in a 68-year-old male who presented with anal
discomfort
that was initially treated as inflamed hemorrhoids. Physical examination revealed a large protruding anal mass, biopsy of which showed biphasic malignant tumor cells with distinct immunoprofiles: a superficial spindled/sarcomatoid component positive for SOX10 and S100, and a deeper epithelioid/rhabdoid component positive for desmin, AE1/AE3, and EMA. Both components were negative for HMB-45, Melan-A/MART-1, c-Kit, and other lineage markers. Molecular analysis by polymerase chain reaction demonstrated wild-type
BRAF
and
KRAS
genes. A diagnosis of dedifferentiated ARM was made based on the coexistence of a differentiated component (spindled: S100 and SOX10 positive) and a dedifferentiated component (epithelioid: all
melanoma
markers including S100 and SOX10 negative). Shortly afterwards, the patient developed extensive pulmonary and liver metastases and expired 20 days after the diagnosis was rendered, reinforcing the highly aggressive nature of this disease entity.

Background and Objectives
: Skin cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed malignancies. The main goal of the therapeutic management is total excision with the prevention of recurrence and metastasis. The quality of life of the patients with skin cancer is affected by the morbidity risk, surgery, and cosmetic or functional aspects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life of patients with skin cancer prior to and post surgical intervention
. Material and methods:
We performed a prospective study on 247 patients with skin tumors. Quality of life was evaluated through an initial questionnaire that was given to all consenting patients. This was used to determine patients' mobility, selfcare, normal activities, pain, and despair, using a five-point Likert scale. The general autoperceived health state was also recorded using a 100-point scale. The study included the responses of all patients at hospital admission, after one month of surgery, and after one year of surgery.
Results:
In patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the general health state indicator statistically significantly decreased one month after surgery and increased at one-year follow-up. In
malignant melanoma
(MM) patients, mobility, selfcare, normal activities, and
discomfort
presented a decrease in values one year after surgery, compared to the values registered at hospital admission. In patients with basal cell carcinoma (BCC), all indicators of quality of life presented an impaired value one year after surgery, after a decreasing trend. The general health state indicator statistically significantly increased one month after surgery and after one year.
Conclusions:
Surgery is one of the main steps in treating skin cancer. It has a great impact on patients' quality of life because of pain andthe effect on mobility and normal activities. Skin cancers influence the quality of life of patients both psychologicallyand physically.

Cutaneous metastases (CMs) signal the spread of a primary tumor to the skin and dermis, particularly in patients with
melanoma
or with breast, lung, or gastrointestinal cancers. Although these lesions may present as superficial and painless, some CMs may lead to ulceration, drainage, and
discomfort
, causing distress to patients. Oncology nurses require knowledge about the clinical presentation of CMs, including incidence, pathophysiology, diagnostic evaluation, and complex symptomatology, as well as standard treatment and care for patients. In addition, nurses can provide psychosocial interventions to assist patients experiencing distress from CM lesions.

A 44-year-old man presented with complaints of pain and
discomfort
in his left eye (OS). On examination, he had bare perception of light in OS and had a diffuse pigmented mass lesion in the nasal quadrant of the bulbar conjunctiva, associated with neovascularisation of the iris and iridocyclitis, with no fundus view. Intraocular pressure OS was 40 mm Hg. B-scan ultrasonography OS revealed an intraocular mass with thickened sclerochoroidal complex. A clinical diagnosis of OS ciliochoroidal
melanoma
with extraocular extension was made. He underwent OS extended enucleation with implant. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of ciliochoroidal
melanoma
with tumour extension into the optic nerve posteriorly and the extrascleral tissues anteriorly. There was no evidence of systemic metastasis. Even in a case of non-juxtapapillary uveal melanoma, poor vision and high intraocular pressure are clinical indicators of optic nerve tumour invasion.

High aggressiveness and recurrence of
melanoma
tumors require multiple systemic drug administrations, causing
discomfort
and severe side effects to the patients. Topical treatment strategies that provide repetitively controllable and precise drug administrations will greatly improve treatment effects.
Methods:
In this study, a spatiotemporally controlled pulsatile release system, which combined dissolving microneedles (DMNs) and thermal-sensitive solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), was constructed to realize multiple doses of dual-modal chemo-photothermal therapy in a single administration. Paclitaxel (PTX) and photothermal agent IR-780 were encapsulated into SLNs and were concentrated in the tips of DMNs (PTX/IR-780 SLNs @DMNs). Equipped with several needles, the DMN patch could be directly inserted into the tumor site and provide a stable "Zone accumulation" to constrain the PTX/IR-780 SLNs at the tumor site with uniform distribution.
Results:
In vitro
experiments showed that after irradiation with near-infrared light, the PTX/IR-780 SLNs gradually underwent phase transition, thereby accelerating the release of PTX. When irradiation was switched off, the PTX/IR-780 SLNs cooled to re-solidify with limited drug release. Compared with intravenous and intratumoral injections, very few SLNs from PTX/IR-780 SLNs @DMNs were distributed into other organs, resulting in enhanced bioavailability at the tumor site and good safety.
In vivo
analysis revealed that PTX/IR-780 SLNs @DMNs exhibited significant anti-tumor efficacy. In particular, the primary tumor was completely eradicated with a curable rate of 100% in 30 days and the highest survival rate of 66.67% after 100 days of treatment.
Conclusion:
Herein, we developed a DMN system with a unique spatiotemporally controlled pulsatile release feature that provides a user-friendly and low-toxicity treatment route for patients who need long-term and repeat treatments.

A 47-year-old Japanese man was referred to our hospital with a one-week history of chest
discomfort
. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a mass in the right upper lobe suspected to be primary lung cancer. A biopsy of the mass using endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) with guide sheath (GS) was performed, and a black-colored mass was observed which occluded almost all of the right B
2
b bronchus. Immunohistochemistry of lung specimens was compatible with a diagnosis of
malignant melanoma
which was confirmed to be BRAF wild-type. Furthermore, positron emission tomography (PET) and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the head revealed multiple metastatic lesions in the brain, liver, and bones. The patient was referred to another hospital for specific treatment. After that, the patient's
melanoma
was confirmed to have the BRAF wild-type gene and PD-L1 expression was 80%. Then, combined therapy of nivolumab plus ipilimumab was subsequently administered.
