T- and B-cells were examined in 56 patients with acute mountain sickness exposed to 3600 m above sea level. They showed T- and B-lymphopenia, decreased PHA- and Con A-induced blast formation from T-cells, reduced content of T mu cells and increased content of T gamma and 0 cells. These changes persisted for as long as 5 months. It was demonstrated that individuals susceptible to acute mountain sickness had a lower level of E-RFC and T mu cells and a higher level of 0 cells. These characteristics seen in the baseline produced a negative effect on the adaptation process.

Salmonella typhimurium infection was diagnosed in 186 patients aged 18-56. The clinical picture was that of gastroenteritis (73.1%), enteritis (14.0%), gastritis (6.45%), gastroenterocolitis (6.45%). Salmonellosis of moderate severity presented in 88.7% of patients, a severe course occurred in 11.3%. Concomitant disorders arose in 22.6% of cases. Immunological investigation disclosed T-lymphopenia, reduced number of multireceptor RFC, both T-helpers and T-suppressors. The levels of 0-lymphocytes and CIC were on the increase. Salmonellosis of long duration was characterized by hyperactivity of autoimmune reactions.

Results indicate that during exacerbation patients with multiple sclerosis showed marked T-lymphopenia, decrease of histamine-sensitive RFC while active RFC exhibited varied changes of their content; increase of the circulating immune complexes, absence or low NIF level. The effect of corticosteroid therapy on the NIF dynamics was evaluated and its level was found to be increased due to hormone treatment. Prednisolone furthers T-cell immunodeficiency and also reduces the intensity of autoimmune reactions in multiple sclerosis. NIF may be used as a prognostic criterion for the evaluation of completeness and duration of the remission. Prolonged functioning of NIF leads to suppression of the patient's immune reactivity requiring immunocorrection.
