Trichosporon asahii fungemia was associated with multiple, purpuric, papular lesions on the abdomen and extremities in a 53-year-old man with
acute myeloblastic leukemia
. Histologically, budding yeasts were demonstrated in the dermis. The yeast-form fungus was identified as T. asahii.

Cutaneous chemotherapy reactions are more likely to be toxic than allergic. Epidermal dysmaturation refers to histologic changes that may be observed in the epidermis after any significant cytoreductive therapy. We report a case of epidermal dysmaturation occurring in a patient with
acute myelogenous leukemia
after antineoplastic chemotherapy.

The authors present the case of a 67-year-old patient in whom bullous pyoderma gangrenosum was the first symptom of
acute myeloid leukemia
. Histologically leukemic cells were found in the skin infiltrate, on the basis of which this lesion satisfied the criteria of leukemia cutis. It was underlined that in the background of such atypical bullous cases there are often hemoblastoses or their malignant transformation. Finally the connection between bullous pyoderma gangrenosum and atypical vesiculous Sweet syndrome is discussed.

Neutrophilic dermatoses are characterized histologically by a sterile infiltration of neutrophils throughout the dermis. The condition may affect various internal organs, notably the lungs, the digestive tract, and the joints, whereas muscle impairment is considered to be extremely rare. We describe the case of a patient with pyoderma gangrenosum in whom severe sterile neutrophilic myositis developed as the first manifestation of an
acute myelogenous leukemia
.

We describe a 49-year-old man with
acute myelogenous leukemia
associated with Sweet's syndrome and abscess-like lesions mimicking an infectious disease. Although blisters may be included in the clinical spectrum, frank non-infectious abscesses have not been reported as far as we know. Clinicians should be familiar with this clinical and histopathologic variant of Sweet's syndrome. It is mandatory to make every effort to find an infectious cause for abscesses before a diagnosis of Sweet's syndrome is made.

We describe two patients, who presented with erythematous facial plaques, in keeping with neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis, during chemotherapy for
acute myeloid leukaemia
. Both patients were neutropaenic and febrile. Histology showed a dermal neutrophilic infiltrate around the eccrine glands with gland destruction. The importance of recognizing this disorder is to prevent the inappropriate use of antibiotics as it is self limiting.

Carcinogenic effects of radiotherapy in breast cancer are well-known. Long-term follow-up of these patients shows a significantly increased risk of leukemia. Cutaneous granulocytic sarcoma is an uncommon leukemia cutis that usually occurs in association with
acute myelocytic leukemia
or myeloproliferative disorders. We report a case of cutaneous granulocytic sarcoma in a 44-year-old woman who had been treated six months earlier for breast adenocarcinoma. The treatment had associated lumpectomy, axillary lymph node dissection and radiotherapy. Skin lesions appeared firstly and predominantly on the irradiated area. Haematological investigations were normal and the diagnosis of isolated sarcoma was made. The uncommon features of this case were the short interval between radiotherapy and the occurrence of leukemia skin lesions and the fact that, to our knowledge, this is the first report of leukemia cutis localised on the irradiated area. The responsibility of radiation in the distribution of cutaneous lesions of granulocytic sarcoma is discussed.

Sweet's syndrome is characterized by the abrupt onset of fever, neutrophilic leukocytosis, and erythematous, tender pseudovesiculated plaques or nodules that respond readily to corticosteroid therapy. It is usually distinguished by the presence of mature neutrophils on histopathologic examination. We describe a 38-year-old man with
acute myelogenous leukemia
who had an erythematous vesicular eruption of the left eye develop that resembled cellulitis. A biopsy specimen revealed a dermal infiltrate of mature neutrophils and immature myeloblastic precursors. He later had hemorrhagic pseudovesiculated plaques develop bilaterally on his hands. A biopsy specimen again revealed abundant neutrophils with immature forms. A similar eruption developed at the site of a Hickman catheter placement 4 months later. His skin lesions responded rapidly to oral corticosteroids. This case is unique in that his initial presentation of Sweet's syndrome resembled orbital cellulitis that was characterized by immature myeloid precursors on histopathology.

We report on the case of a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) who presented with leukaemia cutis preceding development of
acute myeloid leukaemia
. Leukaemic infiltration of the skin should be considered an early manifestation of leukaemic transformation and an indicator of poor prognosis in MDS.

The occurrence of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and malignancy in the same patient is rare. When LCH occurs concomitantly with acute leukemia, distinct temporal patterns often exist;
acute myelogenous leukemia
(
AML
) typically succeeds LCH, whereas acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) usually precedes it. We report a case of LCH developing in a child while in remission for ALL. Unique features of this case include the disseminated nature of the LCH and the death of the patient from LCH rather than ALL.
