A 69-year-old male with chronic herpes simplex
keratitis
underwent penetrating keratoplasty, using cryopreserved tissue. Seven weeks postoperatively the patient developed cephalosporium endophthalmitis. Intensive medical and surgical therapy was unsuccessful and the eye had to be enucleated within three weeks.
