symptoms. Effective treatment focuses primarily on helping patients cope with emotional disorders and psychosocial stressors, and secondarily on direct symptom relief. Psychotherapy is a valuable adjunct to medical treatment. The medications most likely to yield lasting benefits are the antidepressants.
