A case of
intussusception
in a haemophilic boy is described. The presumed cause was an intramural haematoma, which resulted in an ileocolic intussuception. This appears to be the first reported case which has been reduced by barium enema. It is suggested that this method, together with
factor VIII
replacement therapy as soon as possible after the development of symptoms, is the treatment of choice.

The inflammatory fibroid polyp is a rare, polypoid lesion in the gastrointestinal tract. It occurs in the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine in descending order of frequency. This case report shows an ileal inflammatory fibroid polyp that causes ileoileal
intussusception
. So far, the histogenesis and pathogenesis of these kinds of polyps are still uncertain. Under the microscopic examination, the lesion appears to be made up of spindle-shaped or stellate cells that are morphologically identical to proliferating fibroblasts. Immunostaining results are strongly positive for vimentin and focally positive for S100 protein. However, epithelial membrane antigen,
factor VIII
R Ag, smooth muscle actin, and lysozyme test are all negative. This favors the view that the inflammatory fibroid polyp is fibroblastic in origin.

Over the last few years, great advances in our understanding in tumor neovascularization have emerged, with several new mechanisms of neovascularization being proposed. Solid tumors establish a vasculature through angiogenesis, vasculogenesis, vascular remodeling, co-option, and possibly also
intussusception
and vascular mimicry. Quantitative measurements of the tumor vasculature have generally measured the number of microvessels, highlighted using immunohistochemistry and antibodies to
factor VIII
-related antigen at high power over a defined field area. The generation of more sensitive and specific markers--in particular antibodies to CD34--together with the use of a Chalkley eyepiece graticule have improved the objectivity of the assessment of tumor vascularity. The protocol for this is discussed, with several variations such as vascular grade, microvessel density, and the alterations required for the assessment of vascularity in in situ breast disease. Also outlined are potential other measures of the angiogenic activity of breast tumors including the use of angiogenic factors and their receptors, endothelial cell proliferation, vessel maturation index, cell adhesion molecules, proteolytic enzymes, and the recently identified hypoxic markers.

Hemophilia A is a congenital bleeding disorder characterized by a deficiency of coagulation factor VIII. Intramural hematoma of the colon is a very rare complication of this disease. We report a case of intramural hematoma of the cecum serving as the lead point of
intussusception
in a 65-year-old man with hemophilia A. The patient presented with right-sided abdominal pain and bloody stool. Palpation of his abdomen revealed a fist-sized mass. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed a circular mass with concentric rings, consistent with an intussuscepted intestine. Because his activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) was prolonged, we gave him a continuous infusion of
factor VIII
during and after surgery. Laparotomy revealed an irreducible colo-colic
intussusception
and we identified a cecal hematoma as the lead point. After an unsuccessful attempt at Hutchinson's maneuver, we performed right colectomy. We report this case to illustrate the necessity of monitoring APTT in patients with hemophilia A who undergo surgery.
