Central hemodynamics was studied by means of echocardiography in 7 patients suffering from neurocirculatory dystonia with a high cardiac index but normal arterial pressure, and in 41 patients with essential hypertension prior to, and after treatment. Two groups of patients suffering from essential hypertension were distinguished: with a hyperkinetic type of circulation and with a normal cardiac index. In the first group there was a statistically significant increase in the stroke index and the index of diastolic left ventricular diameter with a normal ejection fraction. The increase in the cardiac index in the hyperkinetic type of essential hypertension is caused by an increase in the stroke output according to the Frank--Starling law. The authors believe that the increase in peripheral resistance is the principal pathogenetic mechanism of hypertension with any level of the minute volume.

The paper is concerned with the results of therapy of the climacteric syndrome: the 1st group--typical CS with predominant emotional-vegetative dystonia of vagoinsular nature, skin sensitivity to a certain fraction of estrogens was increased, the 2nd group--CS complicated by hypertension, skin reaction to progesterone; the 3rd group--CS with emotional-vegetative dystonia of mixed type, skin sensitivity to estrogens and progesterone. Intracutaneous administrations of fractions of estrogens (E) and progesterone (P) were at a ratio of E:P = 4:1 for the 1st group, E:P = 1:1 for the 2nd and 3rd groups, causing a complete convalescence of 77 of 94 patients and a partial convalescence of 17 patients. In case of a partial therapeutic effect diet- and balneotherapy was recommended.

Overall 75 children aged 7-13 years with hereditary load as regards arterial hypertension were examined. Hemocoagulation, the content of total cholesterol and triglycerides in blood serum, and that of cholesterol in high density lipoproteins were estimated in children with and without vegetovascular dystonia. The changes in blood lipids of the atherogenic nature, activation of the processes of coagulation were coupled with vegetovascular dystonia and showed up maximally when combined with initial sympathicotonia, hypersympathicotonic reactivity, and with the hyperdiastolic variety of the clino-orthostatic test. The children with hereditary load as regards arterial hypertension and with vegetovascular dystonia should be attributed to the high risk group in order to carry out follow-up studies and a complex of treatment and health measures.

A profound analysis of morbidity with temporary disability (MTD) revealed low health states of the women engaged in coal preparation plants in both Northern and Southern regions of the country. The results obtained proved the major role of labour conditions in the structure of the MTD levels, particularly in such diseases as acute respiratory (dust, hazardous microclimate), hypertension (noise), vascular dystonia (noise and vibration), radiculitis and myositis (poor microclimate). The data proposed a basis for planning health improvement measures.

The author summarizes results of a biorhythmological analysis of the frequency of exacerbations of main diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system. A seasonal character was established for some of these diseases--gastric and duodenal ulcer, chronic gastritis, ischemic heart disease, arterial hypertension, neurocirculatory dystonia of the hypertensive type. It is recommended to use these results for chronoprophylaxis of the mentioned pathological conditions.

Noncontact biomicroscopy has been carried out in 107 women, aged 20-57, with the initial symptoms of inadequate blood supply to the brain in the presence of vegetovascular dystonia, arterial hypertension, and cerebral atherosclerosis in order to examine the end blood flow in such abnormalities. The findings evidence a universal pattern of changes in the microvessels in any of the vascular diseases; the severity of these shifts depends on the disease severity and length. Persistent red cell aggregation in the venules of patients with cerebral atherosclerosis is a critical sign predicting the process progressing. Hypercholesterolemia correlates with the severity of intravascular and vascular shifts.

A complex of occupational factors, such as noise, vibration, workplace air dust loading, toxic fumes, forced work posture, neuroemotional and visual stress, affected health of those engaged at the carpet-making factory. The workers of basic professions experienced fatigue that was accumulated to the end of the working week. Diseases of the osteomuscular system, hypertension, vegetovascular dystonia, skin and subcutaneous fat infections, inflammatory diseases of female genital organs, hearing deterioration became more frequent in proportion to workers' age and length of service.

Twelve volunteers, aged 45-55 years, with hypertension type neurocirculatory dystonia were exposed to 7-day "dry" immersion. Plasma, platelet and vessel hemostasis was investigated. "Dry" immersion was found to stimulate hypercoagulatory changes in the above hemostasis systems. It was also shown that the test subjects developed a slow process of readaptation.

From the standpoint of traditional neurology an attempt has been made to evaluate the function of the cerebral structures in 50 children with vegetovascular dystonia and 30 normal ones. On the basis of the data obtained a working hypothesis is advanced about a special role of the defect in the right cerebral hemisphere in the pathogenetic mechanisms of hypertension in the presence of vegetovascular dystonia.

Hemodynamic changes in response to the hyperventilation test were examined in normal males and females of varying age, and in patients with first- and second-stage essential hypertension, renal arterial hypertension and hypertensive neurocirculatory dystonia. Normal subjects showed increased heart rate (HR) and cardiac index (CI), and lowered specific peripheral resistance in response to hyperventilation, the magnitude of HR and CI changes declining with age. The increase in HR and CI during the test was somewhat more pronounced in patients with essential hypertension as compared to normal subjects, whereas in hypertensive neurocirculatory dystonia hemodynamic shifts were similar to those of normal subjects.
